Don't Skip Destiny 2: Xur This Weekend, Two God-Roll Weapons Are Hiding in Plain Sight
From overlooked exotics to PvE powerhouses, Destiny 2's May 30 Xur drop quietly packs serious value for sharp-eyed Guardians.

Xur has returned to Destiny 2 for the weekend of May 30 through June 2, bringing with him a fresh stock of exotic weapons, armor, catalysts, and legendary gear. While not every item in his inventory is a must-have, there are a few standout pieces that make a visit worthwhile—especially for players looking to round out their builds, fill in their collections, or prepare for the upcoming changes in The Final Shape expansion.
Starting with the exotic weapon catalysts, Xur is offering two options: Coldheart and Traveler's Chosen. Coldheart's catalyst isn't going to change anyone's loadout—its stability boost and orb generation on multikills are mildly useful but far from game-breaking. Traveler's Chosen, however, is an underrated pick. The catalyst enhances its role in ability-focused builds by improving target acquisition and boosting regeneration of class abilities on final blows. It may not dominate the meta, but for players who enjoy chaining their abilities or running Arc and Void subclasses, it offers meaningful synergy and value.
In the exotic armor department, the selection varies in quality. For Hunters, Graviton Forfeit comes with a total stat roll of 67, which is impressive until you notice the 24 points dumped into Strength. That's not a helpful distribution for Hunters, who usually prioritize Mobility and Recovery. Titans have access to Heart of Inmost Light, a top-tier exotic for ability spam builds, but the roll this week only hits 65 total stats, with a spike in Recovery—not bad, but not optimal.
Most Titans will want more in Resilience and Discipline to take full advantage of this armor's potential. Warlocks can pick up Nezarec's Sin with a 66 stat roll, but a disappointing 28 Mobility makes it inefficient. Still, for Void builds, this exotic remains a strong choice thanks to its ability to regenerate ability energy with Void kills. Even though the stat spread isn't ideal, upcoming changes to how stats work in The Final Shape might make it more viable, making this a strategic pickup for forward-thinking players.
Where Xur's inventory shines this weekend is in the legendary weapons lineup. There are two clear winners for PvE players looking to add some punch to their arsenal. First is Escape Velocity, a kinetic lightweight SMG that drops with Overflow and Surrounded—arguably the best PvE roll you can get on this weapon. Overflow allows you to massively overfill the magazine after picking up special or heavy ammo, and Surrounded offers a serious damage boost when enemies are close.
This combination, especially with Appended Mag to further increase ammo capacity, makes Escape Velocity an ideal choice for aggressive, ability-driven PvE content. The second gem is True Prophecy, an aggressive frame hand cannon with Overflow and Timed Payload. Overflow speaks for itself, while Timed Payload delays the detonation of shots, helping stagger enemies and chew through shields. It's a rare and potent roll that's perfect for high-difficulty content, particularly when facing Champions and shielded enemies.
Beyond those two, the rest of the weapons fall into more average territory. Annual Skate rolls with Slideshot and Dragonfly. It's a decent combo for PvE, offering both reload flexibility and crowd control potential, but it doesn't hit the god roll threshold. Canis Major, a solar grenade launcher with Clown Cartridge and Vorpal Weapon, is another solid pick—especially for boss DPS.
While not as flashy as some other rocket or linear fusion options, it's a capable alternative for players lacking raid gear. On the less impressive end, Pleiades Corrector rolls with Genesis and Eye of the Storm, a poor pairing that offers little synergy or utility. Thin Precipice, an aggressive sword, sports Steady Hands and Adrenaline Junkie, which don't complement each other effectively. Likewise, the Titan-exclusive sword Crown-Splitter has Flash Counter and Counterattack, which can work well in a Stronghold block build, but it's far from essential unless you're focused on a very specific melee strategy.
This week's Hawkmoon comes with Rangefinder, a solid PvP perk, along with Corkscrew Rifling and Polymer Grip. While Rangefinder helps extend engagement distance and accuracy, the overall combination doesn't elevate the weapon to top-tier PvP status. It's functional, but players seeking the perfect Hawkmoon will likely keep waiting.
Other exotic weapons on offer include The Colony, Hard Light, and Jade Rabbit. The Colony is mostly relegated to casual fun at this point, having lost its former PvP dominance. Hard Light, which received a boost thanks to updates to its Fundamentals perk and Void damage output, is now a more viable option in match-game scenarios. Jade Rabbit, however, continues to struggle to find relevance in any meaningful activity due to its underwhelming exotic perk.
For those looking to stock up on materials, Xur also has Exotic Ciphers, Enhancement Prisms, Enhancement Cores, and other resources available in exchange for Strange Coins. While these offerings aren't particularly exciting, they remain useful for masterworking gear and weapon crafting, particularly for newer players trying to catch up.
The featured armor set this weekend is Veiled Tithes, a Season of the Witch set with a visually striking design. Unfortunately, the stat rolls on every piece are below the 60-point threshold, making them poor picks for serious PvE or PvP content. This has been a consistent issue with new seasonal armor from Xur, where the fashion appeal is high but the functionality is lacking. That said, this set is becoming more difficult to acquire, and collectors or players who missed it during its original season may still want to pick it up purely for aesthetic or transmog reasons.
In summary, Xur's inventory from May 30 to June 2 isn't revolutionary even though it offers just enough value to warrant a visit. Escape Velocity and True Prophecy are the clear highlights, both featuring rolls that excel in PvE and are rare finds even through normal world drops.
While the exotic armor selection is flawed due to poor stat spreads, the items themselves remain viable in future sandbox environments. Collectors will appreciate the Veiled Tithes armor for its rarity, and those planning ahead for The Final Shape might benefit from scooping up a few of these flawed-yet-functional exotics. It's not the most thrilling week from Xur, but it's certainly not one to skip.
