Fan-Made Nintendo Games Removed from Game Awards Nominees List
Don't expect Pokémon Uranium to win any rewards
News by Grayshadow on Nov 22, 2016
This year's Game Awards is one week away and it looks like games like Pokémon Uranium and AM2R won't be added to the list.
According to Kotaku Nintendo, fan-made games won't be joining the awards nominees for "Best Fan Creation" category. Both of these games, as well as other Nintendo-themed fan projects, were subject to DMCA takedown notices from Nintendo despite reaching popular acclaim from fans.
In a tweet a developer on Pokémon Uranium stated "Sign. Well, it was worth a shot." DocterM64 didn't supply a response to the takedown but did state it "was a nice surprise. An honor to share the category with @PokemonUranium" when AM2R was on the list before being removed.
Opinion: Nintendo is already known for quickly shutting down any fan projects that use their copyrighted material so this isn;t surprising. However, one can expect the community's feedback for this decision to be negative.
