The gaming world is once again on high alert as speculation surrounding a potential remake of Final Fantasy IX keeps continuing to grow. With the 25th anniversary of the beloved RPG upon us, Square Enix appears to be planting subtle yet deliberate clues pointing toward an imminent reveal.

Fans are even more excited because there has been movement on official channels lately, leading them to believe that a big announcement is just around the corner. A Square Enix website launched in honor of the game's 25th anniversary has sparked this new wave of rumors.

The site features newly crafted character profiles, updated visuals, and re-recorded versions of classic tracks from the game, such as "Melodies of Life" and "Song of Memories". While some may dismiss this as routine anniversary fanfare, the scale and style of the effort suggest more is in motion.

The profiles themselves are distinct from the ones available on the original Japanese website, sparking theories that these assets might be reused—or were developed specifically—for a full-scale remake. This wouldn't be the first hint, either. The infamous NVIDIA GeForce Now leak in 2021 listed Final Fantasy IX Remake among other unannounced titles.

Even though leaks don't always come true, some of the items on that list have already been confirmed or made public, which makes the chance that this remake is real even greater. Square Enix's lack of comment on the subject has only made people more excited.

As for when the fans might get the official word, June is the month everyone is looking forward to. Summer Game Fest, a suspected Nintendo Direct show that is anticipated to take place immediately after the introduction of the Switch 2, and a possible Sony State of Play are just some of the high-profile gaming showcases that are scheduled to take place during the summer.

However, it is becoming increasingly likely that Square Enix will decide to launch the remake on their own, possibly by means of a press release or a special event that is only oriented around the anniversary of the game's release. This is a rising suspicion.

It seems possible that Final Fantasy IX Remake will be released in 2026, as that's when Square Enix typically releases games, and 2025 is already full of games they have planned. Fans are still keeping an eye on Square Enix's anniversary page to see if anything has changed. They are hoping that more concrete news will come out in the next few weeks.
