Finally, the famous Hideo Kojima will be appearing in person at Summer Game Fest 2025. This has made the gaming world very excited again. Since this news broke, there has been considerable discussion. Could this be the launch video for Death Stranding 2 that everyone has been waiting for?

Geoff Keighley, who created and hosts Summer Game Fest, recently revealed on social media that Kojima will be speaking at this year's show. This news is particularly significant for fans of both figures, who have been familiar with them for a long time. It is well known that Keighley and Kojima have a professional and personal friendship that has become an iconic part of the gaming world. If Keighley's stage is lit up, Kojima will almost certainly walk out onto it. But what he brings with him is what really counts.

And it looks like Death Stranding 2 will come out this year.

Death Stranding 2, whose official name is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was first shown at The Game Awards 2022. It is a follow-up to Kojima Productions' controversial and highly acclaimed 2019 debut game. The first Death Stranding mixed open-world exploration, story experimentation, and social gameplay in ways that divided players but captivated reviewers.

Norman Reedus played Sam Porter Bridges, a runner whose job it was to bring the United States back together in a strange, rainy world after the end of the world.  The game then went on to win numerous awards and now has a huge following.

Now, people are even more excited about the movie. The window for a full-scale launch video is getting smaller. The release date is scheduled for early 2025, with an early access launch planned for June 24, 2025. During earlier talks, Kojima hinted that a launch trailer would be released soon, likely within one to two weeks before the game's release.

Because of this, the Summer Game Fest in early June is the best time to show what might be the last and most important look at Death Stranding 2 before it comes out. Kojima has used Keighley's events in the past to make his most important announcements, which makes this idea more likely. In the years before it came out, Death Stranding was a big deal at The Game Awards.

Its follow-up was showcased on the same stage in 2022 with a stunning and enigmatic video that featured returning characters, mysterious symbols, and Kojima's trademark love of the unknown. Norman Reedus is back as Sam, and Léa Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker have all been confirmed to join the group. Fans are excited to see what parts these actors will play in the expanded story of the sequel.

Just the subtitle "On the Beach" gives you an idea of what the movie is about. Kojima has discussed expanding on the themes of loneliness and connection that shaped the first game, which suggests a more profound emotional journey ahead.

Because he likes telling stories with big ideas, Death Stranding 2 might be even more of a test of the rules of traditional games than the first one. The launch video will likely be much more than just a movie teaser, which is great news for fans. Kojima is known for making long, stylized teasers that often combine pieces of story and gameplay.

A real launch trailer could finally explain how the game works, show how the fighting has been improved, or give players a better look at how the world is built and the new threats they will face in the sequel. The story could also be broken down into parts that show how the events of the first game will affect this new chapter.

Fans would love to see more of Kojima's other rumored projects, such as the Xbox-exclusive horror game OD, which he worked on with Jordan Peele, or the mysterious project codenamed Physint, which is said to combine interactive entertainment with cinematic storytelling. However, those details are likely to be kept secret until later.

At the moment, it looks like Kojima Productions is only working on Death Stranding 2. Additionally, it's worth noting that Kojima has been experimenting with materials beyond just games. Brain Structure, his show, started in 2022 and has had guests from all over the entertainment business.

There's a small chance that his Summer Game Fest visit had something to do with this part of his work, but Death Stranding 2 is about to come out, and Kojima has already talked about a trailer, so it's much more likely that everyone will be looking at it soon.

More generally, Summer Game Fest 2025 is looking like it will be one of the most important game shows of the year. With Kojima's presence, hopes are raised even more since other big publishers are also expected to bring updates, trailers, and surprises.

Things are ready for more than just a trailer. They are ready for a cultural moment. Kojima never shows up unprepared, and the projects he works on with Keighley often lead to significant changes in the way people discuss the business.

For fans, this isn't just another game trailer; it's the continuation of a world that changed the way emotional, experimental, and linked video games could be. And since the release date is coming up quickly, Kojima is more likely than ever to take the stage to give one last mind-bending look at Death Stranding 2.

Summer Game Fest 2025 will be the center of attention. It's likely that whatever Kojima shows next will be in the news.
