GTA 6 Setting The $100 Game Price Bar
GTA 6 could be the first $100 game and set the precedent for the rest of the industry.

According to a gaming industry analyst, developers and publishers are hoping that Grand Theft Auto 6 is as expensive as $100, which will benefit from increasing development prices and allow others to raise prices as well.
Although the last two years have been flat-out bangers in terms of game quality, it's no secret that the gaming world is in a really bad place right now. Many studios and titles have been canceled, and the increasing focus on hyper-realism and perfection means that games take a lot longer and cost more to produce.
There hasn't been a time in recent times when things were good, but several very positive things are pending on the horizon. Alongside Nintendo's long-delayed Switch 2 finally releasing, the allegedly near-on-horizon appearance of GTA 6 in 2025 is something that all of us would very much like to see as a turning point for gaming. And that anticipation is shared with publishers and developers.
As reported by VGC, Matthew Ball from Epyllion has just released a report on the "State of Video Gaming in 2025" that includes his commentary on what could be going on this year in the industry. Of course, much of that focus is the attention placed on GTA 6 as one of the biggest game releases ever, with certain analysts forecasting it'll rake in more than $1 billion worth of pre-orders alone.
In the article, Ball writes that there is "hope" in the sector between publishers and developers that Take-Two will cash in on all the expectations and buzz regarding GTA 6 by raising the default price point of the game to $100. Given that GTA 6 will sell no matter what it sells for, the sector is supposedly hoping the price is raised so that others will follow.
That price increase is a leap given that games now cost $70 and once cost $60, but that increase is thought to assist with the inflated cost of development, which is now longer and more costly. Whether or not gamers will pay so much for anything other than GTA 6 is unknown, but it does appear to be what publishers are thinking.
