Is February 2025 State of Play Happening?

Sony has yet to announce the next State of Play, while they've never missed a February State of Play.

State of Play events have always been the source of Sony's major announcements for new PlayStation titles. In past events, Sony revealed major games and details such as The Last of Us 2's release date, the first gameplay video for Ghost of Tsushima, and more. This year, however, Sony has yet to announce any date for the next Sony State of Play.

While we posted that there might be a State of Play in February 2025, we still hold onto that ground. During Sony's presentation at the January 2025 CES, they promoted key adaptations of their IP, including the Until Dawn movie, a cinematic rendition of Helldivers 2, and, most importantly, an anime adaptation based on Ghost of Tsushima's Legends mode.

Given it's almost the end of January, this usually coincides with the announcement of a Sony State of Play event. Last year, there was a State of Play in January; we only know about one so far, but we knew about three at the start of last year. However, this uncertainty about the State of Play could be related to all the live service games Sony canceled this month because there are only a handful of games that they can showcase.

Among them is obviously the Ghost of Yōtei. The September 2024 State of Play teased but promised more details in the future months. It's been five months of silence, except the only detail shared was the Ghost of Yōtei will feature a less repetitive open world compared to Ghost of Tsushima. If the game is still on pace for 2025, a summer release seems like a safe bet.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will surely appear this time since it wasn't at The Game Awards 2024. With a 2025 release date set, now seems like the ideal time to announce a release date or gameplay update.

There will likely be an update on Marvel's Wolverine. Insomniac's new CEO didn't reveal any updates on the release date but did mention that the game is running beautifully, which means it's very close to the release. They're probably waiting to reveal the release date during any PlayStation event, which indicates the Feb 2025 State of Play. However, we aren't anticipating Marvel's Wolverine to be released before 2026.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is currently out, but the online Horizon game is due for an update. After seven years of development and rumors of a 2025 release, it could finally make an appearance. Guerrilla Games has been developing on both this and a Monster Hunter-inspired Horizon, so either could appear.

Beyond that, we know little about PlayStation's plans after March. Helldivers 2 might appear if there is a new update. Then there's Judas, which was a surprise reveal last year and might make a comeback unless 2K decides to postpone its release until 2026.

Metro is also a major contender. A VR game from the franchise was recently announced, but rumors indicate that a classic single-player Metro game is playable internally, so perhaps we'll get a teaser for it. Other possibilities? Silent Hill and Stellar Blade may get DLC announcements.

Other possible revelations include ArcheAge Chronicles, Hell Is Us, and Hitman. Of course, Monster Hunter Wilds could get one final promotion before launch, possibly indicating a crossover with Horizon. Titles such as Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Split Fiction could appear.
