Insomniac Prepping Marvel's Wolverine For Upcoming PlayStation Showcase
Insomniac is holding off on a big reveal on Marvel's Wolverine until Sony gives their approval.

It's been a while since we last received an update on Marvel's Wolverine. Apart from knowing that Insomniac is currently working on Marvel's Spider-Man 3 alongside Marvel's Wolverine and possibly a new Ratchet & Clank game, we don't have any official updates from the studio yet. While Insomniac Games waits for Sony's clearance to publish details about their current projects, they said they are currently developing Marvel's Wolverine for the PlayStation 5.
Marvel's Wolverine first debuted way back in September 2021 with a CG trailer, and that's all there is about the game. Since then, the only real info we've gotten was from that hack that leaked a bunch of super early footage and gameplay details. We technically did get another update when Jim Ryan left Insomniac and Sony distributed his responsibilities to three new Insomniac CEOs. During an interview with two of the new CEOs, Chad Dezern and Ryan Schneider, they shared that they're playing Marvel's Wolverine in-house, and the game is running just fine. But that was in January this year, and despite fans' high anticipation, nothing has been spilled from the studio yet.
This lack of updating has rather destroyed the thrill for many. Since September 2021, there has been nothing official about Marvel's Wolverine, no trailers, no new gameplay footage, whatever. Not to mention, in November 2024, Brian Horton left Marvel's Wolverine to work with Crystal Dynamics for the upcoming Perfect Dark. Concerns are starting to emerge: What's happening with Wolverine, as it seems the project has been canceled? Is Insomniac really still working on it? They have been totally quiet up until now.
These questions are all over social media if you check any of Insomniac's posts, and interestingly, they have actually replied on Twitter to an X user when he posted this comment, "Nothing for PS5. No news about Wolverine. Ignoring everyone. Such a great team". Insomniac replied, saying, "We're actively working on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5. We'll share news about the game when *we* are ready to share it. That will always be our answer. We can't act on everything requested when things take time, resources, and the green light to share them."
It's not much of an update, but they at least verified that Insomniac is still working on Marvel's Wolverine and will publish information when they are prepared. They also suggested that they must have Sony's permission even to discuss the game, which isn't too unexpected. Still, Insomniac rejecting a few of the harsh remarks out there is good to see. I believe we will see Marvel's Wolverine sometime soon. Fans have been anticipating that Marvel's Wolverine would release following the PS5 Pro release to boost Sony's new hardware sales, but now the 2025 release is looking very unlikely.
Earlier this year, there was speculation that Sony is considering having a formal PlayStation Showcase. They just have to make sure it's a decent one; I believe they ought to do that. Honestly, a major update or game reveal for Marvel's Wolverine could turn it into a terrific show. It is also worth noting that Sony apparently cut ties with Sweet Baby Inc., according to some sources, behind the curtain. Sweet Baby Inc. has been connected to several controversies, particularly with Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and other PlayStation Studios initiatives you might not be aware of.
This might possibly help explain the unexpected leadership shift for Marvel's Wolverine game, such as when they suddenly changed the director, and why we have not seen it since the official announcement came out. It was also reported that Insomniac canceled Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC for Wolverine. So, a lot of things seem to be happening behind the scenes, and whether we get a PlayStation Showcase or any real games this year remains to be seen.
