Insomniac Games has undergone significant upheaval at the studio's top. Ted Price's departure from Insomniac Games has put the studio in a very fragile situation, as the development of so many highly anticipated games is still ongoing. Given the breadth of Ted Price's responsibilities on Insomniac, it may seem surprising that Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang will replace Ted Price to oversee the business together as a trio. Despite their apparent eligibility as his replacement, Insomniac fans are concerned about the ongoing projects that Ted will be leaving behind.
The new management, however, has discussed Marvel's Wolverine's current situation and the company's future road map. They participated in an interview with Variety and spoke about what it was like to assume the co-CEO position. They were naturally asked questions about Insomniac Games' present situation. Not unexpectedly, the new leadership has big ideas for the studio and its present road map. With a very ambitious road map, they also mentioned that the primary thing to undertake first is to assure continuity.
It appears that Insomniac did have a plan for a DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but their focus shifted towards the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine. Chad Dezern technically avoided the question when the interviewer inquired about Marvel's Wolverine's likelihood of being released in 2025. But we assume there will be an announcement soon. However, the intended DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, along with a PC port, was still meant to be included in the roadmap. While the PC port is getting a January 30 release, fans are still optimistic there will be a Venom spin-off game after this release, if not in 2026.
Apart from this, Insomniac was working on a multiplayer Spider-Man game known as The Great Web. Sony, however, recently canceled The Great Web since PlayStation has shifted focus to single-player games only, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC was scrapped, too. Insomniac oddly confirmed that they haven't planned anything for the future. The DLC that was canceled unintentionally included in the New Game Plus update caused people to question just how much the 2023 cyber-attack has impacted Insomniac's plan.
The DLC was probably canceled to shift Insomniac's focus to Marvel's Wolverines. Though Insomniac confirmed last year that no story DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was scheduled at the time, this still leaves the door open for a cosmetic-based DLC like the much sought-after update that would bring in fresh suits from throughout the Spider-Verse. However, we know that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is in early development phase. So fans are no longer expecting Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC; instead, they are hoping for the grand finale for the series.
