Lost Soul Aside's Delayed Release Might be for all the Wrong Reasons

With just weeks until launch, Lost Soul Aside remains silent. The eerie quiet is raising red flags about delays, and whether this once-hyped PlayStation RPG is heading for disaster.

In an industry driven by momentum, timing, and visibility, there exists a game that continues to defy the playbook. The ambitious action RPG Lost Soul Aside is set to come out on August 29, 2025. It has been in the works for almost ten years. Even though this season is full of marketing ads, developer diaries, and behind-the-scenes videos, this game is strangely quiet. Not any new clips. No previews of files. No talks with developers. Nothing but silence.

As a game that started out as a dream of a single creator, Lost Soul Aside has always done well with contrast. It was influenced by the fluid elegance of Final Fantasy XV and Devil May Cry. It came out of nowhere in 2016 and got great reviews for its high-quality fighting, cinematic graphics, and strange origin story. Yang Bing, who made it, quickly caught Sony's eye.

What began as a personal project quickly turned into a PlayStation-backed project as part of the "China Hero Project", a plan to promote talent from the area. Years later, UltiZeroGames is still working on the game, with Yang Bing as the leader. The team has grown, and they have a bigger picture in mind.

But Lost Soul Aside is still a puzzle, even with all of its polish and history. With a little more than a month to go, marketing might reach a peak with a final trailer, hands-on previews, or even a short show at a recent State of Play or Summer Game Fest. That hasn't come yet. The final build doesn't look like it was touched by anyone outside the studio. Not a single press release. No push for advertising. As well as no clear answers.

The silence is strange because of both the game's past visibility and the date it was supposed to come out. Between 2017 and 2023, Lost Soul Aside was present in a steady, if not regular, way: gameplay demos, movie teasers, and stage visits at different events. This wasn't a small independent project that was trying to pop up on launch day. There had been years of buildup to this title, making it ready for a story.

Which brings up an unsettling question: Why did the curtain drop all of a sudden?

Of course, there are reasonable reasons for this. The lack of promotion could be due to a tight budget or to Ultizero and PlayStation's plan to let the game speak for itself when it comes out. But this kind of restraint isn't common in this day and age, when attention is valuable, especially for a new game coming out at the same time as a lot of other titles. August is full. September has more rain. October and November were scary. That's why silence can be deadly there.

The trend of past delays is even more concerning. Lost Soul Aside was supposed to come out in 2023, then maybe in May 2025, but it was pushed to late August without much of a reason. People were worried about the last delay, which was reported only a month before the launch. Because the window was short and sharp, it pointed to late-stage turbulence. Now, everyone in the business is paying close attention to see if the same thing happens again.

Some people think that the delays and lack of promotions are signs of problems within the company, which could be technical, artistic, or managerial. Other people think that PlayStation may have changed its marketing priorities and is now focusing more on games like Stellar Blade, which has been supported at big events. If Lost Soul Aside is slowly losing importance, it might not be because of how good it is, but because of where it stands.

And yet, rumor is still just that. And the beauty of Lost Soul Aside is that you can't tell what will happen next. This game has always been on the edge of what is expected of it. Though it wasn't made in the system, this game still has a lot of the same features. It's a blockbuster in every way, but it has the heart of an artist's idea.

Maybe the quiet is meant to be that way. It's possible that UltizeroGames' work isn't meant to fight on noise, but on impact. One last message for those who have followed its nine-year trip. Or it could just be a result of the limitations—a warning that not all games can afford to go on a marketing spree.

Don't get it wrong, though—the next three weeks are very important. The questions will get louder if the studio stays quiet. If Lost Soul Aside doesn't get a lot of attention when it first comes out, it might get lost among games that get more attention. Still, there's something beautiful about that too. A game named after what it could become: A place for lost souls to wait to be found.

It might surprise everyone when it comes out on August 29, 2025.
