From the epic return of old classics to wild new surprises, Sony just dropped a massive lineup that could shape the next era of gaming in 2025 and 2026, but fans want to see more.

In their most recent PlayStation State of Play, Sony revealed a major bombshell. Surprising developments, updates that viewers have been waiting for, and surprising disclosures abound in the episode. More than 30 titles were quickly covered on the broadcast, answering many queries regarding the 2025 and 2026 PlayStation releases.

Though there are nostalgic comebacks and innovative new projects, fans were expecting more. Failing to announce any major first-party games or give info on actual gameplay, here are the biggest and boldest announcements trying to rock the PlayStation world.

Kicking things off was Astro Bot, a fan-favorite platformer that's getting a massive expansion. Five new levels from the Vicious Void Galaxy are set to launch this summer, bringing fresh challenges and introducing more Special Bots. To match the excitement, a new smiley-themed Limited Edition DualSense controller will be released later this year.

Baby Steps, the quirky physics-based walking sim, finally lands on PS5 this September 8. The trailer showcased its awkwardly hilarious traversal system and gave fans a closer look at protagonist Nate's bizarre yet oddly endearing journey.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement roared back with a dark, angry fury. Leo and Alex are the two main characters in this 2.5D side-scrolling RPG. They can be switched around in the middle of a fight so that you can learn both strategy and survival. This scary chapter takes you into the haunted Ethereal Castle, where you'll find lots of things to explore and scary enemies.

Surprisingly, Cairn, a survival-climber game coming out November 5, stood out. Players have to manage their energy and resources as they move through a dangerous vertical world. A demo that could be played right away came out on the PlayStation Store, giving fans a sneak peek at the tough climbing.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger also caused a stir when a story-filled video confirmed that it would be out on October 3. The RPG is full of exciting Digimon evolutions and bright, anime-style graphics, and it looks like it will bring back the franchise's computer dominance.

The return of Everybody's Golf Hot Shots on September 5 was one of the most surprising news. For pre-orders, Pac-Man will be a playable guest character. This is a crazy and fun change for the popular series.

It's official: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will be out on PS5 and PS4 on September 30, after years of rumors. This official version has better graphics, fully voiced cutscenes, a new user interface, and other improvements that improve the overall experience. Fans of the first tactical RPG can also play a version that has been kept alive.

Ghost of Yōtei, a long-rumored successor to Ghost of Tsushima, got its own dedicated episode announcement. A full gameplay deep dive will arrive this July, with Sucker Punch ready to showcase next-gen stealth, combat, and open-world exploration.

Hirogami, an origami-inspired action platformer, brought visual flair and unique transformation mechanics. Arriving on September 3, players control Hiro, a master of paper forms who can shift into animals to solve puzzles and outwit foes in a dying paper world.

From IO Interactive, 007: First Light reintroduced James Bond in a fresh light. Rather than recycling old movie plots, this game tells Bond's original origin story charting his rise to becoming a Double-O agent. Set to be released next year, it's positioned as a bold reinvention of the iconic franchise.

Another surprise was Lumines Arise, a brand-new rhythm puzzle game made from scratch for PS5. It has 30 stages and works with PSVR2. It claims to be a synesthetic experience with a new "Burst" mechanic and mesmerizing sound and video design.

Marvel fans were stunned by Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a tag-fighting game developed by Arc System Works in collaboration with Marvel Games and PlayStation Studios. Designed to welcome beginners while satisfying hardcore players, the game revives the Marvel fighting genre with explosive visuals, an original anime-style art direction, and easy-to-learn mechanics.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater dropped an intense new trailer focused on the Cobra Unit. Konami also confirmed the return of fan-favorite Snake vs. Monkey mini-games. The full remake launches on August 28, 2025, giving fans of the series their first proper look at next-gen stealth combat.

Nostalgia hit hard with the announcement of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, bundling the original trilogy alongside documentaries and historical extras. Coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year, this package is a love letter to one of gaming's most iconic franchises.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, crafted by The Game Kitchen (Blasphemous), revives the brutal action-platforming legacy. Launching July 31, it features dual protagonists and a blistering combat pace that honors the series' roots while pushing its limits.

Nioh 3's coming to PS5 was another massive reveal. The dark fantasy RPG adds two styles that can be switched between: Ninja and Samurai. There is a limited-time demo available right now that lets players try out these changes to fighting for themselves.

PlayStation Plus got several boosts, with Sword of the Sea arriving on August 19. Deus Ex joins the Game Catalog on June 17, followed by Twisted Metal 3 and 4 in July, and Resident Evil 2 and 3: Nemesis hitting the Classics lineup later this summer.

Pragmata from Capcom made its return with a visually stunning trailer. Set in a dystopian sci-fi future, players control Hugh and Diana simultaneously in a fusion of action and strategy gameplay. A release date has not been confirmed, but 2026 appears likely.

Project Defiant, Sony's first-ever PlayStation-branded wireless fight stick, was also unveiled. With compatibility for both PS5 and PC, the device is designed for competitive players and is set to launch next year.

Romeo is a Dead Man from Grasshopper Manufacture was one of the show's wildest surprises. This over-the-top action game follows Romeo Stargazer, an undead agent fighting extradimensional threats using everything from guns to demonic powers. Expect absurdity when it hits PS5 in 2026.

In Sea of Remnants, players take to the high seas in a world populated by Puppetfolk. This oceanic action RPG offers ship customization, pirate combat, and narrative choices that evolve the pirate city of Orbtopia.

Silent Hill f, launching September 25, continues the psychological horror saga with a new setting and protagonist. The high school horror storyline dives deep into surreal fear and the eerie legacy of Silent Hill.

Sword of the Sea, a surfing adventure from the creators of Abzû, arrives on PS5 this summer and will be part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. With mythic visuals and serene exploration, it's shaping up to be one of the most visually calming titles of the year.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow brings the stealth classic into virtual reality. As Magpie, a cunning thief navigating Northcrest, players must rely on precision, timing, and darkness. It's a bold reimagining using PS VR2 features, including water arrows and hand-based stealth interactions.

Tides of Tomorrow, from the minds behind Road 96, closes the show with a deeply experimental concept. Launching February 24, 2026, this post-apocalyptic multiplayer adventure uses asynchronous decision-making that echoes previous player choices. Each world feels unique, molded by the paths taken before.

With all of this, PlayStation has cemented its next two years with a catalog bursting with innovation, reinvention and heart-pounding excitement. There is something here for every kind of player, whether they like deep strategic gameplay, high-fidelity graphics, retro glory, or emotional stories. However, fans were dissapointed with the absence of major first-party game announcements, an overreliance on cinematic trailers lacking gameplay, and a lineup dominated by remasters and generic titles.

The event failed to generate excitement, leaving many feeling underwhelmed and questioning Sony's direction.
