Nintendo To Reveal A 3D Zelda Game During Switch 2 Direct
Nintendo's legacy of new Zelda launch titles and the Switch 2 Direct. It's an easy math.

The hype for the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is mounting up, and all eyes are on the likelihood of a significant Legend of Zelda announcement. Given the history of 3D Zelda games in system launches, there is great curiosity about what Nintendo will show, given the presentation set for April 2nd. Fans are wondering whether the widely awaited next-generation 3D Zelda will be shown or if it is still too early for such a release.
Nintendo has a long history of delivering 3D Zelda games at significant junctures throughout platform releases. Whether it's a tech demo, a full reveal, or a game Nintendo is ready to release, Zelda has always been a feature of their new-generation exhibits. The Nintendo 64 debuted with a tech demo for Ocarina of Time, the GameCube with a tech demo later on that became The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and the Wii with the release of Twilight Princess.
Looking ahead to the Nintendo Switch's 2017 arrival, Breath of the Wild was among the system's key attractions. And given this history, it's hard to believe the Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive without any sign of a new 3D Zelda game. Many people question whether the upcoming Switch 2 Direct will have a teaser for the next big Nintendo game.
Tears of the Kingdom came out more than two years ago, and considering Nintendo's history, it seems likely that a new 3D Zelda game will be announced. Little over two years after the original Breath of the Wild, which debuted in 2017, Breath of the Wild was announced in June 2019. Given the timing coinciding, a similar announcement for a new 3D Valhalla might be made shortly—especially given the Legend of Zelda series will commemorate its 40th anniversary in 2026.
Nintendo might not be ready to present a totally playable game yet, though. Some speculate Nintendo might take advantage of the chance to unveil the next 3D Zelda without showing a complete video. This approach would not be completely out of character, given the way the company has handled earlier Nintendo console reveals. For instance, Nintendo unveiled a teaser for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD in 2013 without offering any information regarding the next 3D Zelda game.
As much as it sounds difficult for the Switch 2 to come packed with a brand-new 3D Zelda game, it seems quite likely that something related to the new game could be teased there to reveal its visual direction and themes and possibly showcase some gameplay elements. Fans might not be afforded a complete video but could expect something that insinuates the game's presence and maybe what has been brewing in Nintendo's mind.
Using the enhanced capability of the Switch 2, a teaser of this kind may offer a glimpse into the next-generation Zelda experience. The biggest concern still is whether it will follow Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom or veer into other technologies and areas. Tears of the Kingdom has verticality as a major component; hence, it's not surprising that the idea will be developed in new and interesting directions in the next game.
Apart from a potential Breath of the Wild Remaster or a new 3D Zelda game, there is an ongoing discussion of a remake for the Nintendo Switch 2 Ocarina of Time. Some think this is the perfect time to revisit one of the most beloved episodes of Nintendo's 40th anniversary. Fans would love a remake of Ocarina of Time, and a Switch 2 version may be graphically amazing, much like other current Nintendo games.
On the other hand, should an Ocarina of Time remake be under development, it might be shown later, perhaps around the 40th anniversary events. In the end, it remains to be seen whether a new 3D Zelda game arrives on the Switch 2 Direct. Though it might be in the form of a quick teaser instead of a full announcement, fans could expect at least one reference to Zelda. Should Nintendo decide to unveil the next 3D Valhalla, it will be a glimpse into the future, a sensation of what is to come without diving too much into gameplay or narrative points of view.
The future of Zelda seems brighter than ever with the prospect of an Ocarina of Time remake on the horizon; fans can be sure Nintendo has something special in store for the next-generation Skyrim experience.
