Overwatch's Fourth Anniversary Brings New Skins and Revives Game Modes
Blizzard's team-based shooter rewards its players for their continued loyalty with new skins and fan favorite game modes.

Blizzard Entertainment just recently launched the fourth anniversary event for their team based shooter, Overwatch. With this event comes eight new skins, the ability to buy any of the otherwise event locked skins (provided you have the in-game currency), and the revival of specific PVP and PVE games, scheduled on a specific calendar. Blizzard has dubbed these game modes Brawls, and kicked off their schedule with a fan favorite from their Summer Games Event, Lucioball.
The new skins that were released for the year are each unique in their own way, though some characters have received more love and attention than others when it comes to the detail that is represented on the skins. There were four damage heroes, two tank characters and two healers that received new skins, and the Overwatch community is still trying to figure out how they feel about these new looks to their favorite heroes. For example, the healer Mercy has been given a new "Dragoon" skin that has split fans over the green color scheme and headpiece on the character. Of course, with the return of the anniversary event came previously released skins, allowing players who had saved up enough in-game currency to buy the skins that they have been wanting for months. As a support main myself, I personally jumped at the opportunity to finally purchase the "Shieldmaiden" skin for Briggette, the squire healer. Although many skins are hit or miss for many fans of the game, Overwatch is constantly designing new skins for their heroes so that nobody is without a skin that they enjoy seeing. This process shows that Blizzard is trying to be attentive toward their fanbase, as well as the fact that the game has brought back previously event-locked game modes.
The different game modes each include a new variation on the large map pool that Overwatch uses, and allows players to use their characters in new and unique ways, which is why the team at Blizzard thought it would be effective to revitalize games that players have enjoyed for years. The game modes that are returning allow players to play Capture the Flag, have in-game snowball fights, and even fight against non player characters in an RPG style of game, similar to what is promised to come in Overwatch 2. Although the Overwatch community may seem like it is growing smaller since the recent 2-2-2 role lock change to its main game mode, plenty of players are still active and supportive of the game. This is shown by the fact that the Blizzard team is still hard at work on the lore-based sequel to the shooter, Overwatch 2, as well as the consistent updates such as this anniversary event. Overwatch is available on PC, Playstation 4, XBox One and Switch.
