PlayStation LA Studio Developing A New AAA Game
Sony is forming a new studio to develop a revolutionary triple-A original game for the PlayStation.

Sony has been a dominant force in the gaming industry for a while, and in 2024, they seemed to have achieved more than in recent years. While they were successful with the launch of PS5 Pro and the acquisition of Kadokawa's major shares, there were darker days with the terrible launch of Concord, which led Sony to shut down Firewalk Studios. Even though Sony remains starved to launch their hero shooter game, they aren't the type of company that would back down from the Concord disaster.
Interestingly, a new, as-yet-undisclosed studio in Los Angeles is working on an original PlayStation game that Sony hopes will be revolutionary. According to a job posting that has gone viral online, it will be a brand-new IP owned by PlayStation. This particular job advertisement discloses that the individual chosen will be based out of a newly formed triple-A studio in Los Angeles and will be employed by PlayStation as a Project Senior Producer.
The job advertisement further reveals that the undisclosed studio is working on the next revolutionary triple-A original IP. Since Sony is looking for someone with experience delivering numerous triple-A games, we should expect a big-budget blockbuster-style game from them. Even more so in the first phase of qualification is the need for the candidates to have experience developing a high-quality game. While this points out to several individuals, everyone seems to be speculating that Jason Blundell is in charge of the project. Treyarch veteran Dave Anthony, who moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to work as a producer for the Call of Duty series, has also been pointed out.
However, Jason Blundell has extensive experience working on the Call of Duty Zombies series, and another factor to think about is that he used to work at Deviation Games. Though the studio's operations ended before the release of the game, which he had been working on in collaboration with PlayStation, he never got to publish the game. So, his connection with PlayStation still remained as he had been working on a new game and leading a new studio inside Sony Studios, and the game was described as an action game. Besides, a number of people who had previously worked with Deviation Games have come forward on LinkedIn to say that they have also joined PlayStation and are now working with Jason Blundell.
So, this seems to be the crew that will be working on this new game for PlayStation, which could be a live service, a single-player game, or anything in between. All we could dig out is that the game is set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe. The game does sound like another Concord project, and with any luck, this time around, they'll be able to get the game out the door and deliver it to the standard that PlayStation Studios has come to anticipate. Given that this is supposedly a PlayStation original IP that breaks new ground, we can only assume that the production values are over the roof. Should we expect it to be on par with their other intellectual properties, such as God of War or The Last of Us?
Even though Concord failed and will haunt Sony for a while, the issue of how fair fans' expectations from PlayStation remains unchanged, and I do believe they are fair. Though this game won't be coming out for a while, it could even be a PlayStation 6 exclusive or perhaps a PS6-PS5 cross-gen game. Also, the unveiling of this game is quite unlikely to happen very soon since Sony will take the time to release PlayStation 6. With key positions like Project Senior Producer still being filled, the development cycle may easily extend beyond three to five years. Whether it's a single-player game or a hero shooter, and if Jason Blundell is indeed leading Sony's new Los Angeles studio, it would be nice to see him delivering something of his own on the PlayStation platform since we never got to play what Deviation Games had been preparing for PlayStation.
