Final Fantasy IX Remake and Tactics Remaster Both in Development

Finally, an update on the arrival of Final Fantasy IX Remake and Final Fantasy Tactics Remake.

Remakes of Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy IX are allegedly still in the works, according to renowned industry insider Nate the Hate. Nate has a history of spilling the beans on video games before they're officially announced. There have been rumors about both titles for a while, and they are still in the works. Both games are still in the works, according to NatetheHate, who was responding to a Twitter user who wanted to know how they were doing. The anticipated release year for Final Fantasy IX Remake is not 2025. Perhaps it won't be released until 2026.

Final Fantasy IX Remake, Rumor

A Final Fantasy IX Remake was one among many unannounced games included in a 2021 GeForce Now database leak, in case you forgot. The PC remake of Final Fantasy VII, a remaster of Chrono Cross, and Kingdom Hearts 4 were among the Square Enix titles that were later officially announced. Here we have it again: a trustworthy list that discussed these games and this one in particular. Not only that, but we've heard from other sources, including Jeff Grubb, who mentioned it when it was in production.

The one thing that remains a mystery to us is actual proof of this being real. This is one possible perspective if you choose to base your decision on the Nvidia database breach. If you believe these people, for example, Nate the Hate, who correctly predicted when Nintendo Switch 2 would be revealed, and the PlayStation February State of Play showcase date, which we saw earlier this week, then... Even though we still haven't seen an official reveal for this game, the sources cited here are credible.

These games are definitely in the works, and I want to believe that to be true. Both of these, in fact, will be taking place, in my opinion, especially because the expectations for a Final Fantasy IX remake are high. My best guess is that it will debut in 2026 rather than 2025. It's still possible that we may see this game's unveiling in 2025, but we probably won't see its full release then.

If Square Enix were to announce a Final Fantasy IX remake in 2025 and then release it in 2026, it would sound incredible. It would be even more impressive if they revealed the game in 2025 and followed up with a 2026 release. It would be absolutely mind-blowing. Since Square Enix has been silent about its plans for this year, this project sounds like an appealing possibility.

From all the speculation, I would expect that this is really under development; therefore, it would be quite reasonable for them to reveal it. The number of rumors around this makes it impossible to dismiss or disregard it, regardless of how we feel about the veracity of the Nvidia leak or these reports themselves. Most fans also believe that these games are clearly in the works, and it is quite possible that the announcement will happen this year.

Beyond that, I don't find the idea of a launch in 2026 to be unjust. Even Nate stated that this was only his guesswork; all he was doing was speculating that it might be released in 2026. The remakes of Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics are still very much in the works and have been for a while; I firmly believe that as a fan. Square Enix Presents is likely to happen in February, so I won't be surprised if they finally release these two remakes.
