The reviews for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart are up and the game has extremely high scores, with many praising the title's charming atmosphere and robust combat. The AAA industries notorious for crunching employees to get the results seen in games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart tweets have revealed that the game was made without crunch.
I'd appreciate ppl sharing this positive. Because it's important.#RatchetPS5 is at 89 avg score & I can't speak for anyone on the team but myself, but I didn't crunch once. 40h weeks the whole time.

It is possible to work on a great game w/o suffering.https://t.co/8GOzukf2sh
I didn't crunch once, entire production. A couple late nights here and there finishing something up, but COMPLETELY CRUNCH FREE. It is possible. Team wellness lets the creativity flow free. https://t.co/Bf9C7BQLRn

Only a few tweets highlight this such as animator Lindsey Thompson and game designer Grant Parker. The developers only speak for themselves but stated that management did not encourage crunch.
This has become a heated topic among the gaming industry as crunch has led to massive issues within the development of video games. Infamous examples include Anthem, Mass Effect Andromeda, Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon Age Inquisition, The Last of Us Part II, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The list is much larger and the human cost of this practice has resulted in massive burnouts and even emotional breakdowns due to the massive demand of content at an aggressive pace. As more games are rushed to market this leads to major technical problems that require more crunch and patches to resolve post-launch. Like the shameful release of Fallout 76 that caused a massive collapse of Bethesda's once glowing reputation.
However, as stories like these come out more gamers are becoming sympathetic to the needs of those who make the games they love. Especially when they're exposed to treating their employees poorly. Insomniac Games on the other hand has had a magnificent reputation among gamers and their employees, delivering incredible titles for 2 decades.
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart launches for PS5 this June 11th.
