Despite numerous reports and rumors of a PlayStation 5 price reveal on September 9, the date came and went with Sony being unusually quiet about the upcoming console. Even though their strongest competitor, Microsoft, revealed the price and release date for their Xbox Series X & S earlier this week, no news about the PlayStation 5 has been confirmed by Sony.

However, in a recent Tweet from the official PlayStation page, Sony announced a PlayStation 5 showcase, which would be streamed on Wednesday, September 16 at 1PM PT. The tweet was accompanied by a video showing the console virtually emerging from the shadows.

Although the company did not provide any more details about the upcoming showcase, many fans are hopeful that Sony will use this opportunity to reveal pre-order dates and the long awaited price of the next gen console. It has been reported to be a 40 minute event, and will likely emphasize first and third party game developers.

PlayStation 5 Showcase 2020

Many players are curious to see if Sony will be combating the Xbox Series X preorder date, which currently is set to open on September 22. Even though any official information remains to be seen, fans should begin to plan for a pre-order, as the console is expected to be in short supply when it does launch.

The showcase will likely feature blockbusters like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. These games were revealed at the first PlayStation 5 event earlier this year, and fans have been excited to see more detail of these games.

One game that may not be focused on is Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, and this is for a few reasons. Firstly, Sony already underwent an extensive interview and featured gameplay of the title during their last PlayStation 5 event. Secondly, Valhalla announced earlier this week that they would be launching the game earlier than expected, to coencide with the Xbox Series X release. This may point towards favoritism from Ubisoft, especially since the Series X has a price point and release date.

Although no specific games or details have been confirmed to be featured at the PlayStation 5 showcase this coming Wednesday, fans are excited to see what Sony reveals. Many games have been rumored to be in development for next gen consoles, though it is always safer to take these reports with a grain of salt, and tune in to the showcase to see what the PlayStation 5 has to offer.
