Spider-Man: Miles Morales to Introduce New Unique Abilities
The upcoming Spider-Man game from Insomniac promises to add abilities that are unique to Miles Morales from the comics.

Insomniac Games' Spider-Man PS4 allowed players to utilize all of Peter Parker's unique abilities during combat, such as his super-strength, agility and endurance. Although Miles Morales also has these traits, he has a few abilities of his own that were revealed in the comics. Insomniac Games confirmed in a recent tweet that these abilities would be available to players, though how they would be implemented has yet to be revealed.
The two abilities that have been revealed are Miles' Venom Shock and Camouflage powers. Although his camouflage utility is self-explanatory, it is worth noting that this ability will also affect the clothes he is wearing, making him essentially invisible for a duration. On the other hand, the venom shock allows Miles to channel large amounts of energy into objects or people, as easily as Thor might with his lightning. When this power hits an enemy, it deals a significant amount of damage, which can destroy chains, and also temporarily paralyzes the victim.
Despite the fact that Insomniac has not revealed just how these abilities will be incorporated into the game, some fans have developed their own theories, based on the previous Spider-Man game. It is possible that the Venom shock could be used as a launcher for enemies with melee weapons, or as a finishing move after a unique set of combos. Venom shock's paralyzing affect could also give Miles another way to stun his enemies, rather than webbing them against the wall.
As for his camouflage, players will likely need a separate button on the controller to activate and deactivate this ability, and will undoubtedly require a limited time use and cool-down. At the moment, the only button without a specific function in Spider-Man PS4 is L3, so players should expect something similar when the sequel officially releases. On the other hand, Insomniac's trailer shows that the invisibility may be part of Miles' unique suit powers. However, this would not be as useful for the infiltration missions that filled the previous installment.
The new addition of these unique powers not only represents Insomniac's loyalty to the comic and its fans, but also shows that they are willing to branch out from old mechanics to make this game fairly different from its predecessor. By allowing players to use two separate characters across the two games, Insomniac hopes to prove to skeptical players that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone sequel, linked only to the first by its universe.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales releases for the PlayStation 5 during the 2020 holiday season.
