Why Genshin Impact Hasn’t Teased 5.3’s Upcoming Characters

Genshin Impact’s schedule of releasing new characters has worked like clockwork ever since their debut in 2020. The game’s social media pages tease the upcoming characters with appealing full-body splash art of them, along with some lore, constellation, and perhaps their vision.

You can generally tell what element their vision is from their themes, but even that aspect has had some mystery surrounding it (looking at you, Neuvillette).

Usually, after a new Genshin Impact patch becomes accessible, which is currently 5.2, the art of the brand-new characters of the upcoming patch is dropped after two days have passed. What’s even more perplexing is that the archon of the new region was not released in X.2 as they have been for the past two regions.

Well, it has been 3 days since the patch was released, and there has not been even an echo about it from Hoyoverse or Genshin Impact. What is up with that?

It Could Be Due to Lore Reasons

This isn’t the only time this has happened, and Hoyoverse has been known to alter the way they release information about the upcoming characters if it pertains to the game's lore. As I teased with Neuvillette earlier, his drip marketing post did not feature any vision on his person.

That, and with the way he had been portrayed so far in the arc of Fontaine, we all thought he would be the hydro archon, but it didn’t make sense. It turned out (4.X spoiler alert) that Neuvillette was a Hydro Dragon, so he did not need a vision, and speculation about him being an archon was close but not quite correct because his reigning over Fontaine was his right as the sovereign dragon of the region.

In any case, the drip marketing not dropping is most likely due to lore reasons, given how things are currently going with the Archon Quests in the game. If you are up to speed with the quests, you will know what I am referring to.

The Game Awards Is Coming

Another likely reason the next character hasn’t been teased yet is because The Game Awards 2024 is coming. Genshin had previously delayed their tease for this event before they unveiled Alhaitham to the people.

Who Could The Next Characters Be?

From what we know, the Pyro Archon, Mavuika, and Citlali from the vision holders that have been revealed to us in the game so far are due for release. So, they are the most likely candidates to be revealed in The Game Awards 2024—Mavuika and Citlali.

They are only the speculated 5-star, though (assuming Citlali is going to be a 5-star). With the Lantern Rite Festival also falling in the duration of 5.3, there is a chance that we will see a new character from Liyue as well, like we got Gaming last year.

The great part is that since we get a Liyue 4-star selector in every Lantern Rite Event, we might be able to get the newest Liyue character without spending any wishes!
