Assassin's Creed Odyssey Legacy of the First Blade serves as an adequate extension to Assassin Creed Odyssey by introducing some challenging boss battles but rarely introducing new elements. Much of the three episodes of make up this expansion include the same missions from the core campaigns within the same environments provided in the core campaign. Despite the lack of variety Legacy of the First Blade provides insight into the overall lore of the Assassin's Creed franchise.
Legacy of the First Blade has you working with Darius, a legendary warrior who dawns one of the first hidden blade within the Assassin's Creed universe. Along with his son or daughter, depending if you choose Kassandra or Alexios, are running and attempting to defeat a new organization called The Order of the Ancients who seeks to control everyone through political and violent means.
Darius and his son or daughter are great characters, each with their set of ideas and distinct personalities that reflect how the player chooses to play their own character. The Order is more direct in how they choose to handle the player instead of the Cult in the core campaign. Choosing to interact more with the player and attack directly through psychological and violent means. In one instance the player is confronted with the family members of those the player killed, showcasing that the player is just as evil as the people you're fighting. Unfortunately, much of the DLC begins to lose its appeal as you actually play.
The DLC does introduce new weapons and even a ship flamethrower that you obtained from defeating difficult bosses. But much of the content seems recycled from the core campaign. You'll hunt down Order members similar to the Cult and perform repetitive objectives within the same environments. The DLC rarely introduces new areas to explore, with much of the DLC having you infiltrate the same camps and forts.
In addition, the option of choice is very minimal. Playing the entire campaign will offer little alternatives for how the tale ends but does provide insight into how Alexios and Kassandra's bloodline serves a great purpose.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey Legacy of the First Blade is an alright distraction that adds new bosses to face, weapons to obtain, and showcases how significant Alexios and Kassandra is to the overall Assassin's Creed lore. However, players will need to grind through a lot of mediocre objectives and the same tasks to see this ending.
