Horse racing is a big sport all around the world and it is no surprise it has made its way into the video game industry. A lot of video games try to emulate sports though not all games are completely accurate. Below are a few of the more popular horse racing games that can be found on PlayStation and other platforms across different eras.

Horse Racing Game, PlayStation, PC, Steam, Xbox

Winning post 8 (2018) PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vista, windows

This series of horse racing games began in 1993 and has been incredibly successful in Japan, which was the main country where the series was released. Winning Post 8 was released in 2018 on the PlayStation 4 and features some impeccable gameplay that closely replicated the sport of horse racing. The gameplay is fun and exciting and immerses the player into the game with the help of great graphics and competent controls. There is also a betting system that has been incorporated into the game that gives it another level of realism. Highly recommended if you are a fan of the sport.

Phar Lap horse racing challenge (2019) PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Made by New Zealand-based video game developer Pikpok the Phar Lap Horse Racing Challenge has managed to create an immersive game that really showcases the spirit of the sport. The graphics are fantastic as is the sound. The story is immersing and intriguing which makes you want to get the best out of your horses and races. The gameplay is particularly fun because, besides riding, you can operate your homestead, stable, and control the training of your horses, as well as the horse racing schedule if you get the clout. A well-rounded game for the sport which has some well-thought-out courses and has made a sincere effort to make the feel of racing as sincere as possible.

Champion Jockey, (2011) PS3, Wii, Xbox 360

Thoroughbred horse racing can be a tough sport to port over to a video game system while trying to emulate the experience. Champion Jockey has made a great attempt to get this done. It was released in 2011 on the PS3 and to a positive audience in Japan, where horse racing video games are especially popular. Aside from the fact that there is no option for getting any race tips or any other kind of betting, it does have real-life races such as the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders Cup which add to the realism. It was a fairly decent take on the sport which has been hard to successfully port to a video game setting but one that can be visited over and over again.

My little riding champion (2018) PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, windows

This game is a little different from the rest as the focus is on getting to know your horse and being able to nurture and train it. Once you have done that you can go out and race for your club and win medals. The graphics are fairly good as should be expected on next-generation consoles but it also allows a more competent understanding of the world of owning a horse and the responsibilities it entails. Recommended for people who want to enjoy some horseracing but aren’t necessarily into the competitive side of it.

No matter which game you decide to play, each of these games is great for fans of the horseracing sport.
