It feels like forever and a day since Gran Turismo 5 was first announced, but we waited patiently, as release date after release date was either cancelled or pushed back. It almost became a game in itself, with people partaking in sweepstakes, predicting when the day would finally come. Now that day has finally come, and at this point, it seems highly unlikely to change. Pencil November 24 into your diaries with confidence, as the discs have been stamped, the games have been sealed, and everything seems good to go.
That’s not all though, as Polyphony Digital has been kind enough to reveal the game’s entire Track List and Car List for us to peruse at our leisure. I guess they’re not too bothered about surprises then.
If you take a look at the Track List you’ll notice there are a total of 71 tracks, which includes all the variations on offer. Disappointingly though, only 11 of those have the dynamic weather system that we’ve heard so much about. Despite that, there does seem to be enough there though to get your teeth sunk into, and offers just enough variety to keep you busy for the next few months.
What is a little perplexing though is while they’ve included the Top Gear Test Track, they haven’t actually followed that up with any of the reasonably priced cars that have featured predominantly on the show over the years. Perhaps this could have DLC written all over it, we really hope so. Also, if you look at the Car List in greater detail, you’ll notice there is an excessive amount of Japanese models, with no fewer than 41 variations of the Nissan SKYLINE.
Some of these clear omissions can and will be forgiven if they get the game right, and thankfully we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out. Be sure to check out our review of the game in the coming weeks, and find out whether it’s put the series back into pole position, or it’s starting to burnout.
