Just one month ago, Microsoft increased the price of all Xbox LIVE Gold subscriptions. Thirty days later, Microsoft has decided to give a little back just in time for the holidays. Today, a new system has launched that distributes "Rewards Points" to Xbox LIVE account holders for certain activities performed with its popular online service. Actions ranging from purchasing or renewing Xbox LIVE Gold subscriptions to taking surveys will be rewarded with specific amounts of Rewards Points, applied to the participant's Xbox LIVE account. These points can then be spent as Microsoft Points in the Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the many products offered there such as avatar clothing and Xbox LIVE Arcade games. To sign up for the service, Xbox LIVE members can visit the official webpage, where a chart outlining the exact amount of points earned per activity can also be found.

You're welcome to scrub the fine print, though there's not much of a catch to be found. However, those looking for instant gratification may be a little disappointed to learn that the initial "pending" points earned by performing the specific activities could take up to 30 days to convert to "awarded" points, and only then can they be redeemed for Xbox LIVE Marketplace content. Regardless, anyone with an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will likely be doing at least some of these activities already, so it will be nice to find a few extra Microsoft Points in your balance after a while just for doing the same old stuff. It's hard not to like getting a little something for nothing.

  • its a nice system, I wish they gave more points though, the only one that gives a good amount is the renewing the family gold pack, but still I wont complain its better then nothing

  • I'm a little intrigued as to what "Exclusive Promotions" will result in what "Cool Prizes." But it's definitely a nice move, particularly so soon after raising prices.

  • Well I'm not sure it justifies the increase in price but as a rewards system I'm quiote impressed, from the rewards perspective I think its quite good, it seems fair and it should be something they can easilly keep going...
