Civilization has always been known for leading the human revolution, one archer at a time. But in a strange turn of events, it has now also breached the wall of sound with its alluring soundtrack.
This is where the magic happens.
The opening theme for Civilization IV ‘Baba Yetu’ is the first original composition related with a video game ever to be a finalist in the Grammy Awards. Originally performed by the Soweto Gospel Choir in 2005, the song has since acquired popularity by being performed massively in live concerts by choirs. It’s also a part of the concert tour, Video Games Live, which features game music being performed by choirs and orchestras.
‘Baba Yetu’ is nominated in the category ‘Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists’ and will compete against 5 others for the Grammy. Rightfully, this one should be in the bag, as you’ll never find a better score for a game ever again. Even though Civilization IV gives you the option to import your own music, there’s just no beating the overall soundtrack of the game. I mean; it captures the entire essence of humanity, you can hardly top that. This is reason alone to still be playing the game today.
Composer Christopher Tin is up for 2 Grammy nominations in total.
Composer Christopher Tin is a man that knows his stuff as he has previously worked on music for Apple, Microsoft, Verizon, X-Men, Puma and many others. The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 13, 2011.
