All of the rumors surrounding the third game in Naughty Dog's acclaimed Uncharted series have finally come to fruition. Today, Entertainment Weekly posted a first look at Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

Nathan Drake taking us to more Uncharted territory

If you have a Playstation 3, chances are pretty good that you've played Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If you have not played them, well, play them.

Drake's Deception once again follows protagonist Nathan Drake and is set to make stops at the Arabian Peninsula and the Rub' al Khali Desert. EW's article also confirms the appearance of good old Sully, so it's nice to see the reoccurring characters maintaining their visibility throughout the series. There is also mention that the game will "make more expansive use of motion-capture filmmaking techniques that will enhance the quality of character performance." Seeing as how the first two Uncharted titles set the bar pretty high for character performance and motion-capture, that's pretty lofty talk.

Also of note is Naughty Dog's apparent focus on including expanded online multiplayer and co-op features, as they "want to take on the big boys of the multi-player genre" while still knocking the socks off of any action-adventure pretenders out there.

All we are getting about the release date so far is "late next year," but it is nice to hear that the game is expected to be out in 2011. The first full trailer for the game is set to air during the Spike Videogame Awards this Saturday, December 11th. Perhaps we will come away from that with an actual release date.

Until then, here's a short teaser trailer!

UPDATE: Gavin Purcell, the producer of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, has announced via Twitter that his show will host the first live demo of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on the episode this Monday night, December 13th.

  • interesting. i liked what i saw on uncharted 2, except maybe for the shooting... too much of it. i was hoping more platforming and puzzle solving and less gears of war without chainsaws.
