It’s time we filled you in on the most brutal release to happen next year. Mortal Kombat will try and regain its fame of yore, when it will come back to splatter screens in April of 2011. Although NetherRealm Studios has original creator Ed Boon under their wings, it will never be the same, without watching Midway (who filed for bankruptcy) pop up on the screen.
First off, the game boasts to go back to its 2D roots and bring back the mature feel of the series, complete with Fatalities and all. I didn’t really pay attention to the later iterations, but why take those out in the first place?
In any case, players will be able to go head to head in the classic modes, but are also promised a deeper story mode, tag team battles and online capabilities. Most of the icons of old will return to the screen, so expect lots of hook slinging with Scorpion and body freezing with Sub-Zero. Personally, I always had a thing for Cyrax, so I’m glad to see the cyborg’s revival. And to top it off, the PS3 version will offer all these things shooting at you in stereoscopic 3D; given you have the equipment for it. I mean, a tv, not a grappling hook, you bunch of psychopaths.
In the goodie department, the now obligatory special editions have been announced for both PS3 and Xbox 360. There will be a Kollector’s Edition will contain Sub-Zero and Scorpion figures, that cleverly double up as bookends for your other Mortal Kombat video games; or you know, any other. But it will also have a collectible art book and downloadable content that will add "Klassic" costume skins and avatar costumes and come to a total of 100 bucks.
Mortal Kombat 2011 - Tournament Edition Xbox 360
A separate Tournament edition will feature the same DLC, but instead of figurines, will have a portable arcade fight stick, custom made for the game. Apart from sitting comfortably on your lap with memory foam, the device also opens up to reveal a storage space for your game and other knickknacks. A little more special than the other edition, this will come to 150 dollars and will be limited to 20.000 units!
Lastly, pre-ordering from different stores will give you different skins, such as Gamestop (Scorpion), Best Buy (Sub-Zero) and Amazon (Reptile). It’s a pitch, I suppose.
It’s a little quiet on the Xbox 360 side so far, but PS3 owners can get pumped beyond compare now. Yes, you fanboys can look forward to months of anticipation as your favorite character, Kratos from God Of War fame, will be ripping out throats exclusively on PS3’s Mortal Kombat. So this only leaves us with one queston:
Kratos Kicking Kiester
Who do you think will be the murder maker in the Xbox 360 version? Yours truly is going to vote Ryu Hayabusa, as he’s the only badass without a 7-foot, phallic replacement, blaster rifle in his hands.

ehehehe loved the replacement "K's" that you had in the entry. i love those store exclusive skins...but i dont want to choose!!! a reptile skin would be sweet. and i hope that at least we get complete avatar costumes and not just the clothing. I do bless their hearts for going back to their 2d roots. 3d MK was just not MK...and the introduction of weapons really just messed things up in my opinion. if i want to use weapons i go play Soul Calibur
