Hollow Knight Silksong is filled with tonnes of tools, ones that make your life easier and ones that are just fun. One of these tools, which is both fun and useful, is the Silk Shot.
This guide will help you find the Silk Shot and the different variants of this tool.

The Preparation
This tool is an Act 2 upgrade, and you will need to have abilities such as the double jump, the clawline skill, and others. The required items will be mentioned in their necessary sections.
The Beginning of the Search
To start off, you must first find the ruined tool, which is what we will use to craft each version of the silk shot.

The ruined tool can be found in the area Bilewater at the bottom right of the map. You will need to swim through the maggots into a secret section; for this, you will use the Wreath of Purity tool.
You will then approach a door where you will need to use the ability Needolin to open the door, after which you can enter a chamber.
You go right and drop down, going further right until you reach an opening, wall jump up, and go right into a room where you will find two cartridges suspended in the ceiling. After hitting them, you have to go to the left, where you will find the ruined tool.

The Variants of Silk Shot
There are three variants of the Silkshot tool: two single-shot variants and one burst shot. I will be referring to the single-shot variants as the handgun and the railgun variant, as one shoots a single pellet like the pins you throw, and one shoots a streak of silk like the silk spear ability.
I will refer to the burst ability as the SMG. All of them use canister-based ammunition that needs to be replenished by sitting on a bench.
A quick disclaimer: once you have transformed the ruined tool into any one of these variants, the tool can no longer be reversed into the other variants. I suggest that you choose whichever one you find most useful or pleasing to use.

The easiest variant you can find is the handgun, which you can get by taking the ruined tool to the Forge Daughter in the Deep Docks, who will offer to fix it for you for 1 craft metal and 240 rosaries.
This variant deals around 21 damage in each shot, and you have 15 shots; the shots do not pierce. I would say that this variant and the railgun are quite similar, but netizens claim that the railgun is a better use.

The railgun variant can be crafted in the area Mount Fay, right next to a bench near the area known as Slab, where you need to platform up to the top using the abilities you gain throughout the game.
Here, you will need a craft metal to make the silkshot. This silkshot variant deals 34 damage, and you get 16 shots. The upsides to this variant are that they pierce the enemies and hit multiple at a time, the downside being that there is a big windup animation.

The third and last variant, the SMG, can be made by taking it to the Architect in the underworks area, near the bench at the top right, who will repair it for you. This variant has the lowest damage, with 18 damage total in the 3-burst shot.
All three variants are a unique addition to the Hornets' arsenal, with some being more advantageous and having their downsides as well. I suggest trying all three out in different runs and seeing how you fare.
