In the world of Layers Of Fear, the Actor's Story follows the journey of the Burns children on a ship called the RMS Odyssey. Your ending is decided by whether you follow the orders of the Director. If you always listen to him, you get the Flame ending. If you always refuse him, you get the Always ending. If you mix your choices, you will see the Formless ending.

How to Get the Flame Ending

To reach the Flame conclusion, you must obey the Director in the first four chapters. In the first chapter, you will be told to shoot a Mannequin. To obey, you must shoot the one on the right, which is the Woman. During the second chapter, you will fight a Dog for food; you must keep struggling until you successfully take it. When you reach the third chapter and see Lily on a plank, do not shoot her. Instead, shoot the Pirates on both sides of you to save her. In the fourth chapter, you must choose between the Flame and the Flood. To get this ending, you actually need to stand still and let the Flood take you.

How to Get the Always Ending

If you want the Always ending, you must defy the Director at every turn. In the first chapter, shoot the Mannequin on the left, which is the Man. The Director will make you redo this scene many times, but you must keep shooting the Man until he gives up. In the second chapter, let the Dog keep the food every time you try to take it. During the third chapter, you must shoot at Lily three times as she walks the plank. Finally, in the fourth chapter, you must run toward the Flame and reach it before your time runs out.

Tracking Your Path

Between the chapters, you will find yourself in a Cabin. You can go to the Recording Room there to look at the choices you have made so far. You cannot change these choices once they are made, so you must start a new game if you want a different result. If you choose to obey the Director, the game will usually move you forward right away. If you try to disobey, he will often give you a second chance to change your mind before the choice is locked in.
