The Nintendo Switch is a console with such a large catalog of games that grows with each passing year, and 2024 is no different. This year, there are plenty of games to be excited about, from remastered classics to fresh new takes on a genre; here's a list of some of the Nintendo Switch games we can't wait to play.
1. Tales of Kenzera: Zau
We got our first look at this stunning metroidvania when it was first shown off at The Game Awards 2023. Tales of Kenzera: Zau will guide players through the vibrant and beautiful world of Kenzera, which tells the story of a young and grieving shaman, known as Zau, who must make a deal with the god of death to bring his Baba back. This gorgeous 3D platformer game comes from EA Originals and will feature a unique magic system that won’t just aid in combat but will also help Zau traverse the lands of Kenzera. Tales of Kenzera: Zau will be released on 23 April 2024.
2. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
While Mario is out saving Peach, Luigi is out hunting ghosts in this remaster of Luigi’s Mansion 2. The original Luigi's Mansion 2 was released way back in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS, where it became a smash hit, and now, we will get to experience it again. Though this time with a fresh coat of paint. However, this remaster brings something new and exciting to the table and that is that Luigi's Mansion 2 HD will have multiplayer functionality, meaning you and your friends can go ghost hunting either online or via local multiplayer. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD currently has no set release date, but we can expect it to be around mid to late 2024.
3. Hollow Knight: Silksong
The sequel to the original Hollow Knight is a game we all know is coming; we just don’t know when. A lot has changed in Hollow Knight: Silksong’s development, going from a DLC to a standalone game. Players will play as Hornet, the princess and protector of Hallownest, also known as the land of silk and song. Much like the first game, Hornet will encounter many dangerous foes on your quest to uncover the ancient secrets of both nature and the past. Hollow Knight: Silksong currently has no set release date but will most likely be announced in 2024.
4. Eastward: Octopia
To say that there is plenty of excitement surrounding the upcoming DLC for the acclaimed Eastward would be an understatement. Sam and John have swapped out their lives as adventurers for a life of peaceful farming in a new mountainside village, where they need to tend to and harvest crops and take care of livestock. While this is a surprising new take on Chucklefish’s Zelda-like, we’re just excited to play as Sam and John once again, even if it's a bit less action-packed. Eastward: Octopia is set to release on 31 January 2024.
5. Professor Layton and the World of Steam
The beloved Professor Layton series has been dormant for quite some time now but that all changed during the 2023 Nintendo Direct. While we are grateful to go on another adventure with the professor, we don’t actually know much about the series' first venture on the Nintendo Switch. What we do know is Layton and Luke will be experiencing a brand-new story set in the city of Steam Bison - a city filled with steam-powered automata. Professor Layton and the World of Steam currently has no set release date but will most likely be announced in 2024.
6. Unicorn Overlord
Vanillaware is just one of those studios where you know, no matter what it is, you’re in for a treat. Unicorn Overlord is a beautiful traditional tactical turn-based RPG that features a stunning cast of nearly 60 characters that you will need to recruit to your army in order to take back your kingdom from the rogue General Valmore. Players will play as exiled prince Alain, who must venture across the continent of Fevrith, performing heroic deeds, gaining allies, and retaking his homeland. Much like other Vanillaware games, it is a treat for the eyes and one we cannot wait to play. Unicorn Overlord will be released on March 8, 2024.
7. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD isn’t the only Nintendo classic getting a fresh coat of paint. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong is a remake of the original GameBoy game of the same name and will follow Mario as he tracks down his old nemesis, who has stolen all the Mini-Mario toys from the Mushroom Kingdom. Much like the original, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong will be an absolute must-play for fans of puzzle platformers, especially those who want to put an end to some serious monkey business. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong will be released on 26 February 2024.
8. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
2024 certainly is a big year for Ubisoft. Probably one of the most exciting releases is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This will be the first new installment in the Prince of Persia series in almost 11 years, with the remake of The Shadow and the Flame. In this new installment, we will play Saga, the youngest member of a squad of immortals, who is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped Prince Hassan. The game will feature a unique take on fast travel in Metroidvanias that is a welcomed breath of fresh air. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will be released on 16 January 2024.
9. Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island
This interesting roguelike might have slipped past most people’s radars. Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island was first shown off at the Japanese Nintendo Direct back in September 2023. Luckily for us, developers Spike Chunsoft have confirmed that the game will be getting a western release. Shiren the Warrior is a spin-off series of the Japanese dungeon crawling game series, Mystery Dungeon. Much like in previous releases, you will play as the titular Shiren as you explore strange and mysterious dungeons, uncovering new weapons and treasures. Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island will be released on 27 February 2024.
10. Princess Peach Showtime
It’s been a long time since Princess Peach got her own solo adventure, and this time around, it will be on the Nintendo Switch. This time, Princess Peach will need to rescue the patrons from a theatre that has been taken over by the dastardly Grape and the Sour Bunch. Unlike in her last solo game, Nintendo DS's Super Princess Peach, Princess Peach Showtime is pulling out all the stops from costume changes to supercharged attacks, making the once distressed damsel a true leading lady. Princess Peach Showtime will be released on 22 March 2024.
