Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 | How To Customize Character

Here's how to customize your character in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

In Space Marine 2, Armoring Hall is where you will manage your progression (customizing and upgrading your character aboard the battle barge). It can be easy to get caught up in the range of options available and waste early resources on cosmetics, shiny new paints, and emblems, but if you want to progress your character optimally, you need to focus on only the essentials.

The central console in the Armoring Hall takes you to the class selection menu, where you can choose between the six classes at launch: Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy. This choice sets your path pretty much for progression but also for which class you will take into battle. Your class level, how much XP you need to level up, special abilities, and armor durability appear on the right-hand side of the screen. At the bottom right is your perk tree, which unlocks as you level up and gradually changes your playstyle.

Loadouts and Trials

At the left side of your screen, you'll have your loadouts-three per class-which become quite critical at higher difficulties. In-mission, you can switch between these loadouts at Space Marine drop pods to restock up on ammunition or even change your strategy in a different combat scenario. Since different builds are good for different encounters, having ready-to-go loadouts will help you in anything from swarms of lower-tier trash enemies to elite bosses.

Complementing your loadouts, you'll find Trials which are basically scenarios designed to teach you core class mechanics while you try to beat time-based challenges. A rank on all trials gives you two rewards for progression materials: 25 requisition points and one Mastercrafted-tier Armory data fragment. All 18 completed trials grant you a sizeable reward of 450 requisitions to start your journey.

Progression Resources

Progression in Space Marine 2 relies on three types of resources: requisition, Armory data, and mastery points. Requisition is the most available currency since it's earned from operations and trials, but it's also the most easily burned if you're not careful. Use it to upgrade weapons and save it for other essential needs rather than cosmetic upgrades.

The new tiers of weapons access Armory data, such as finding hidden Servo Skulls during operations or defeating mini-bosses like the Carnifex or Neurothrope. Colors include green for mastercrafted, or average in difficulty, purple for artificer or substantial difficulty, and yellow for the relic or ruthless in difficulty.

Mastery points, which buy perks for each archetype of weapon, are earned through using weapons in combat. As you progress down each weapon's perk tree, these unlock passive bonuses that make your Space Marine more prepared for intense encounters.

Weapon Progression

Each class in Space Marine 2 has specific weapon restrictions, though some weapons overlap between classes. For example, the Bulwark and Heavy classes use the Plasma Pistol as a secondary weapon. Advancing shared weapons early on gives you an edge when you switch classes, letting you transfer hard-earned progression between characters. Pay attention to the stats and blocking style when upgrading weapons, especially for melee weapons, because they will directly impact your parrying and blocking potential.

These three options are balanced, fencing, and block. Balanced allows a small, equal window for blocking or parrying, while fencing allows a larger window in favor of a perfect parry and counter; block focuses entirely on blocking without the option to parry.
