Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Guide | How To Use Archeological Field Skill To Unlock Treasures

A guide on how to use the Archeological Field Skill and unlock treasures in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.

While you're exploring Xenoblade Chronicles X's huge open world, you may find strange treasure chests or artifacts that you can't touch. That's why Field Skills are important. You can interact with different things in the environment depending on the type. Things work a little differently in the Definitive Edition. You no longer have to level up these skills by hand.

Instead, each Field Skill is linked to a different basic Off the Record mission, and each mission has three puzzles to solve. Because this is the Definitive Edition, two of these puzzles are brand new. The clues for the Archaeological Field Skill can be found in this guide.

White Shell Puzzle

This first puzzle is the same as the one that came with the Wii U version: "If you see a pure white shell, it now lives to the east."

Get 10 White Forfex Shells by going far east into Oblivia and killing a bunch of monsters called Forfex. There you will find the answer. Find FN Site 319 on the very east coast of Oblivia. It's the best spot for this. There are a lot of Forfex to beat up there.

Snake of Stone Puzzle

"A stone snake among loose bowls, slip its gaze, enter its belly hole." This is a new puzzle that took me a while to figure out.

The word bowls is the key. It has to do with the Elephant's Trunk land bridge that connects Primordia to the Noctilum region. Find the Orochi's Belly area and solve this puzzle by going to FN Site 220 and jumping down below.

The Primordial Cliffs Puzzle

There is a third puzzle about the north coast of Primordia. It says, "Where the Primordial Cliffs face the sea, in a cleft you must seek longevity."

A water cleft or ravine will be west of FN Site 108 on your map. There is a Turtle's Nest territory in the very southwest corner of this body of water. Find it and solve the puzzle.

Green Riddle Fields

"In fields of green in New LA, ask in the morning to find the way." will show up in the mission menu after all three puzzles are solved.

This fourth puzzle is the same as the Wii U version, which is good news. This is about the residential district's green spaces. That being said, it has to be early morning, and not just morning. Don't run around at the wrong time like I did. He is across the street from Deliverance Park, near a big orange crane and a yellow mech. His name is Sten. He will teach you how to work in the Archaeological Field.

Uses for Archaeological Field Skills

The Sylvalum region, on a piece of the map just east of FN Site 408, is a good spot to test this skill. Keep an eye out for some pretty tough enemies nearby, and talk to the alien reliquary to get a pretty good skill boost. Keep in mind that not all Field Skill treasures are found by clearing map segments; some are just hidden around the world.
