Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Review

When Monolith Soft came out with Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U in 2015, they delivered a technological and narrative marvel that was only available on a device that a small number of people owned. After being buried deep within Nintendo's home console, which was the least successful, it continued to be an underappreciated gem despite the fact that it had a cult following. 

The Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers the game's great open world, clever battle system, and amazing discovery experience to a modern audience, thereby achieving the attention that the game deserves. To this day, the question that remains is whether or not this re-release improves the experience to an even greater degree or whether it only serves as a touch-up.

The action of the game takes place on Mira, a planet that is both staggeringly weird and eerily beautiful. In this world, mankind is attempting to survive after escaping the destruction that Earth has caused. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition's narrative focuses on the survivors of the White Whale, a colony ship that sank on Mira, as they establish New Los Angeles and fight against hostile alien species. 

The plot follows the survivors as they construct New Los Angeles. In contrast to Xenoblade Chronicles and its sequel, which focused on a character-driven plot, Xenoblade Chronicles X places a greater emphasis on world-building and player freedom. 

The protagonist is not a predefined character but rather a personalized avatar, which allows for greater freedom of role-playing but comes at the expense of a more organized personal narrative. Selecting this option highlights the fundamental concept of X, which is survival in an unknown environment, while simultaneously distinguishing it from the emotive storytelling of its predecessors.

There is no doubt that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition features an exceptional gameplay experience. The expansive open world of the game is divided into five continents, each of which contains its own distinct creatures, ecosystems, and hidden areas. There is a sense of enormity that is astounding, with towering mountains, massive alien architecture, and large monsters roaming free. 

The main excitement of the game begins when you acquire Skells, which are enormous mechs that transform both exploration and fighting. During the early stages of the game, you may wander around on foot.  Increased ease of navigation is achieved by the Definitive Edition through the reduction of Skell dynamics and the overall enhancement of the user interface.

In order to make flight and movement more substantial, Skells' mobility has been substantially altered in physics. This has resulted in an increase in the level of immersion that can be achieved when operating such massive machines.

Apart from that, some changes have been made to the character animations to provide non-playable characters and Skells with more fluid movement and emotion, thereby improving the professional sense of the cutscenes. Though it is rather controversial, Hiroyuki Sawano's music is unquestionably original. 

Not available in any other role-playing game, the mix of techno beats, wide orchestral melodies, and thunderous combat sounds creates a singular mood. Though some songs—especially those with a lot of vocals—might not be appealing to everyone, the Definitive Edition has the power to change the way music is delivered, therefore providing a more customized audio experience. 

When there are smooth transitions between exploration and action, conflicts and events in the story acquire a cinematic character. Though the voice acting is really good, the interactions with the main character—a silent protagonist—are less intriguing than they were in past Xenoblade games.  Small script changes done to enable a more natural flow of dialogue have helped to somewhat improve the English localization.

The most basic issues with the game have always been its very complex goal structure and dubious advancement mechanism. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition answers some of the concerns expressed about the game with better quest tracking, more open goals, and a new tutorial system offering a more thorough explanation of the complex ideas. Still, some of the more magical mechanisms that still baffle us are affinity development, and other S Kell-related needs.

Even if these improvements make the game more welcoming, one still has to be patient and driven to handle its general complexity. Less-packed menus and better sorting choices for crucial objects and side quests have been used to help clear the new user interface. This has helped to straighten the development from the last edition. 

Including more detailed fight strategy explanations in the lessons guarantees that novices are not overwhelmed and helps them to develop their skills. The post-game content is as abundant as it has ever been by virtue of the presence of high-level foes, unique Skells to collect, and some of the most challenging bouts in the series. 

Improvements have been made to the matchmaking and dependability of the multiplayer component, which makes it easier to work on group projects even though it is not the primary attraction. Skell upgrades and ultimate weaponry are made more satisfying as a result of the new endgame balancing tweaks, which, in turn, extend the lifespan of the game beyond its primary core experience.

Though it may not be able to solve all of the original's flaws, it does enhance and show them in a way that makes the Mira experience more fascinating than it would ever be. One of a kind and vital addition to the genre, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is so because of its large surroundings, improved gaming techniques, and amazing graphics.
