A new trailer for Aeon Must Die premiered at Sony’s State of Play this week, and within hours former employees of developer Limestone Games posted allegations that the footage was canned animations of a stolen concept.

All Aeon Must Die devs quit the studio this week due to crunch and lack of payments, and the trailer was outsourced to artists without contracts.

Aeon Must Die was first showcased back in 2019, but the official social media accounts were shut down near the end of the year. Employees claim that Limestone Games upper management had overworked the staff without compensation. Shareholders then poached the game ideas from the original creator, and a totally new team was hired to make a trailer non-representative of gameplay, whom in turn were also not paid. Both Sony and publisher Focus Home Interactive seemed to be unaware of these claims. However, Focus has stated that they will now investigate the legitimacy and take proper actions:

If the game does prove to be stolen work, it is unclear if it will be canceled or fully reworked with different aesthetics and gameplay.
