Square Enix Will Allow Staff To Work Permanently At Work Starting December 1st
New work procedures offered by Square Enix may change the gaming industry

Working in the gaming industry is difficult especially when travel is involved. Usually, studios open where the best tax benefits are offered and staff has to relocate when taking jobs at these locations. Not to mention the cost of office space and other necessities. However, with the pandemic, most companies have shifted to at-home working procedures and it seems to be beneficial to the employee. With Square Enix allowing staff to work permanently from home starting December 1st.
Square Enix stated employees responded positively to the change and a happy employee is a hard-working employee.:
Providing customers with unforgettable entertainment requires creativity and productivity. Moreover, the nature of the work involved demands consistent, robust security. As such, the Work-from-home Program will combine "home-based" and "office-based" models.
The Company will designate each employee as either "home based" (working an average of at least three days per week from home) or "office based" (working an average of at least three days per week from the office). In general, all eligible employees will be designated as "home based." Division heads will designate some positions or individual employees as "office based" as dictated by the nature of the work involved.
Status changes will be allowed on a monthly basis depending upon the intensity of an employee's duties. The Company expects approximately 80% of employees to be home based in December, the first month of the program's implementation.
This could be huge for the gaming industry as a whole if companies follow in these footsteps. Bungie has been creating a system so all employees could also work at home but with the pandemic, these procedures have become mandatory. After seeing the positive results of working from home perhaps this could be the new norm for gaming companies.
