It would seem that after years of rumors and speculation, fans can rejoice as they finally have confirmation on the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake. The announcement was made during Sony's latest PlayStation Showcase, alongside the announcement of the remake, it was also announced that we will be getting Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Metal Gear games, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater plays a major part in the series' timeline and is set the earliest in the Metal Gear timeline, despite being listed as the third installment in the series. Due to it being set the earliest in the timeline, it would only make sense that this would be the first game to receive the remake treatment. Sadly, these remakes will be happening without the involvement of the series original creator, Hideo Kojima, so there's no telling how different this game will be compared to its original release back in 2004.
During the showcase we were shown a CG trailer, that didn't exactly show us much. Instead, what we did get to see was Naked Snake, sneaking through some jungle foliage. Despite not showing much, this relatively short trailer has sent fans into an absolute frenzy. This is also because with the announcement of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set, fans will finally be able play the older games on newer and more modern platforms such as the PS5, which both the collection and the remake will be released on.
However, despite all the excitement that the announcement of the Metal Gear 3: Snake Eater remake caused, we have yet to get an official release date for it. On the plus side, we do at least have a vague release date for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set, which has been confirmed to be releasing in the Autumn of 2023. The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set will include older titles such as the original Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and the original version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Due to both of these announcements being made during Sony's PlayStation showcase, we do know that both titles will be releasing on the PS5. However, according to inside sources, players may expect to see the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set and Metal Gear 3: Snake Eater remake appear on other platforms such Xbox and PC.
