You Might Not Want To Pet The Dog in Diablo IV

The fourth installment in the dungeon crawling RPG series, Diablo, has certainly added many new features to the series, the most highly anticipated of them, being able to pet all the furry canines they encounter. However, players may need to think twice before petting these four-legged companions.

For those of you who are incredibly confused as to why dog petting is such an in-demand feature in games, players having the ability to pet various furry friends rose in popularity after many players lamented the fact that they couldn't show their fuzzy friends some affection. Since the viral meme, many games have implemented the said feature, to the point that there is even an entire Twitter account devoted to it (@CanYouPetTheDog). Back in February 2023, it was revealed that in Diablo IV, if you emote "Hello" while facing a dog, they would follow the player.

While many players have been greatly enjoying this feature in the beta version of the game and many have shared their dog and cat petting experiences. However, according to a Redditor known as Truesilverchamp, animal petting can come with a grizzly consequence. Truesilverchamp figured out that cats and dogs are not invulnerable and can be killed easily by enemies when you leave town. This has saddened many players who wanted to bring their battle buddies along for an adventure.

There is an easy solution if you don't want Fido to become demon food. Others on the Diablo IV subreddit pointed out that when you're just about to leave town, players will be able to emote "Wait" if they have a dog with them. This will make their canine companion stay where it was told to wait and spare it from becoming demon food.

Despite this nifty pet-saving solution, not all players have to worry about their companions' safety as players who were able to play the game's beta back in March 2022 and were able to unlock the Wolf pet cosmetic will be able to bring a companion along. This cosmetic unlocks a sleeping wolf pup that players can carry on their backs, the pup will be gladly snoozing while you go on your many bloody adventures. This cosmetic will transfer over to the full version of the game. Diablo IV will be available on 6 June 2023, and will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
