Valve Says Bye-Bye to Earth: Year 2066

Earth: Year 2066 has been removed from Steam Early Access.

Described by the developer as an open-world RPG, Earth: Year 2066 was apparently inspired by the likes of Fallout and Half-Life 2. The story focuses on a nuclear war between the United States and China wherein people mutate into human-zombie hybrids and must find their way to safety. Zombies are cool, right?

Many people seemingly found Earth: Year 2066 interesting as it was Greenlit in January and released on Steam Early Access in April. Sure, the screenshots and gameplay videos aren't breathtaking, but the notion of the game was intriguing.

Earth Year 2066, Steam, Early Access, Muxwell Urban, Killing Day Studios

Since its Early Access release, Earth: Year 2066 and its developer, Muxwell Urban/Killing Day Studios, have been getting a lot of flack. In fact, a lot is an understatement. The developer has received a colossal amount of criticism, and for good reason.

On top of the massive amounts of negative reviews, the developer has been accused of stealing images, deleting appropriate forum comments and recruiting people to post positive reviews. The developer has also allegedly been involved in several crowdfunding scams, including one on Indiegogo.

Here's a conversation between the developer and a pissed off gamer, going at it over the projects faults. As you can see, Muxwell Urban/Killing Day Studios has dug a hole - one they'll have a tough time explaining.

It seems that Earth: Year 2066 was reported by enough Steam users for Valve to take action. A May 5 post announced that the game had been removed from Early Access with the Valve employee saying, "Steam does require honesty from developers in the marketing of their games." Full refunds will be given to those who have purchased Earth: Year 2066, and it looks like a bleak future for Killing Day Studios/Muxwell Urban.

With embarrassing failures such as Earth: Year 2066, will Valve kill Steam Greenlight for good? Is buying an Early Access game too much of a risk?
