World Of Darkness

Tonight I’m going to suck…your blood!
Ten points to anyone who knows the reference, but now on to business: I’m sure all of you are aware of The Grand Masquerade convention in New Orleans, where the local vampirism aficionados go to feast on gothic goodness. Well, you’ll be amazed that they actually talk a lot about games there as well.
Long story short; CCP, makers from hardcore MMO ‘EVE Online’, announced their new project ‘World Of Darkness’ there. The game will be loosely based around role-play classics ‘Vampire: The Masquerade’ and ‘Vampire: Requiem’ and will focus on player politics and social interaction. This greatly follows the feel of the pen-and-paper games, where dialogue makes for more gameplay than any other guideline. Also, since the original creators of Vampire: The Masquerade, White Wolf, merged with CCP, it is only logical they would follow similar paths on their creations.
Some things just make a writer’s day and this counts as one of them. The Vampire franchise was not only one of the best RPG’s out there (despite buggy bugs), but was also my second favorite role-play experience. In a Top 3 consisting of Star Wars, Vampire: the Masquerade and the almighty Werewolf: The Apocalypse; World Of Darkness consists of 2/3 of my role-play youth.
Unfortunately, release isn't due until at least 2012. So, until White Wolf finally decides to make good on their best franchise and yours truly sells all his possessions to play a Werewolf game, World Of Darkness looks like the next best thing to tide over aficionados around the globe.
Tide over their raging bloodlust, that is; bleh!
