Activision Blizzard Layoffs Confirmed, Around 800 Jobs Lost Despite Record Results for 2018
Despite record results Activision Blizzard has laid off 8% of their staff

Last week, rumors were spreading about layoffs happening at Activision Blizzard this week. Those rumors are true but much worst, with nearly 800 people now laid off despite Activision Blizzard stating record results.
Kotaku was able to obtain a copy of the letter which included the following statement from Brack:
“Over the last few years, many of our non-development teams expanded to support various needs. Currently staffing levels on some teams are out of proportion with our current release slate. This means we need to scale down some areas of our organization. I’m sorry to share that we will be parting ways with some of our colleagues in the U.S. today. In our regional offices, we anticipate similar evaluations, subject to local requirements.”
These layoffs are a result of projections being missed for 2018 despite having a positive financial year. During an earnings call, it was reported that 8% of Activision Blizzard staff would be affected by the layoffs, most from non-development fields and will be receiving severance packages unlike what happened to Telltale Games back in 2018.
In response, the gaming community has come together by posting openings at various other studios such as Santa Monica, Obsidian Entertainment, and more.
