Twitter users started taking to the internet with funny memes, using classic games with the same motto. In addition, Xbox users who downloaded the games on Xbox 360 are finding that the Xbox Live store is removing the older version of the titles for the "updated" digital copies. According to a response to IGN, Bethesda stated this was an unintentional glitch and are working on a solution.

Regardless, seeing that these games are largely single-player experiences having such an annoying requirement is unnecessary. It's clear that Bethesda placed the requirement to increase their account numbers.

This is another misstep in Bethesda's long-running issues. Since the release of Fallout 76, Bethesda has been on a downslope. With Rage 2 and Wolfenstein: Youngblood's poor marketing campaign, the post-launch of Fallout 76, and The Elder Scrolls: Online monetization focused gameplay. Bethesda has dropped as one of the most acclaimed companies to one of the most infamous in such a short time.

Doom, Doom II, and Doom 3 are available now across PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, with the first two games also being released on iOS and Android.
