Chrono Trigger is undoubtedly one of the most popular role-playing games ever made. Since its release in 1995 Super Nintendo, the game has remained popular with players for almost 30 years. After many years of longing, Square Enix finally re-releasing it or remaking it in HD-2D. Square Enix has published additional information about Chrono Trigger on their official Japanese website, along with an interesting fact highlighted that, Chrono Trigger has sold more than 5 million copies on all platforms.

For a game released on the Super Nintendo, it appears that they wish to raise awareness of the game because they are now publicly disclosing sales numbers, which they haven't done in years, to attract more customers. Also, a deal for Chrono Trigger on PC, iOS, and Android was announced to interest a wider user base. Square Enix seems to be gearing up for the next level.

Chrono Trigger HD-2D Remake

However, Square Enix has been remaking old games using its HD-2D style, which mixes modern 3D effects with classic pixel art. This style has worked really well for games like Live A Live and the upcoming Dragon Quest III Remake. If Square Enix wants to remake another popular JRPG, Chrono Trigger is a dealbreaker.

Square Enix has announced that they are developing new Chrono Trigger-related initiatives. While they haven't revealed much detail about the game, their plan for an HD-2D Remake is to celebrate the game's 30th anniversary. Fans love the original's gameplay and artwork, and an HD-2D remake might make it even better without ruining its charm.

There is a high chance that Square Enix will introduce the Chrono Trigger remake at a Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. When it comes to JRPGs, Nintendo and Square Enix are just like allies. Titles like Octopath Traveler, Live A Live, and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake were all introduced during Nintendo Directs. If Square Enix takes the same course and reveals Chrono Trigger HD-2D Remake during April Switch 2 Direct, it wouldn't be shocking.

A Chrono Trigger Remake might be a big break, given the reports of a Nintendo Switch 2 coming soon. Reviving Chrono Trigger for a new generation of players will be a huge success for both Square Enix and Nintendo, given the original Chrono Trigger was a super hit on the Super Nintendo before.

Even after all these years, Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest JRPGs ever released. It is a game worth playing repeatedly because of its time-traveling plot, lovable characters, and various endings. If Square Enix revives it with an HD-2D version, it will reach a new audience and provide gamers with a new way to enjoy the game. Additionally, it could easily attract millions of gamers globally with the help of Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, and Xbox.

The pieces appear to be coming together for a Chrono Trigger revival, but nothing is official yet. Given their recent success with HD-2D remakes, Square Enix is discussing the game more than it has in years, hinting that this might be the ideal moment for a revival.
