Details on CD Projekt RED's 'Cyberpunk 2077,' GOG on Mac, and More

The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED’s latest futuristic RPG title now has the official name, Cyberpunk 2077. It is set in Night City, a location featured in the tabletop pen-and-paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020, and which the game will be based on. The announcement came from their recent GOG livestream in Warsaw, Poland.

Further details about the game include a sandbox world and a nonlinear story where technology has become “both the salvation and the curse of humanity.” According to the developer, Cyberpunk 2077 is still in its early stages of development, but you can keep up with the development progress through the game’s blog. In one of the first blog entries, CD Projekt RED will also be working closely with Cyberpunk 2020 creator, Mike Pondsmith, to “ensure that the unique feel of the original, paper game is preserved intact.” Both CD and Pondsmith assured that Cyberpunk 2077 will be “true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre.”

That’s not all CD Projekt RED said in their livestream. They also announced that GOG.com is now available for Mac, in which the digital service launched with 50 games that include Faster Than Light, The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition, and many others. Games from Interplay are also included, and will have a “pay-what-you-want” deal for the next couple of weeks. These include titles such as Fallout, Freespace 2, and Descent.

VG247 reports that CD Projekt RED also talked about their REDkit modding toolkit, utilizing the company’s REDengine. It allows players to create their own levels through “ready-made assets” featured in The Witcher 2, including 24 hour day-and-night cycle simulations and landscaping design. This is also currently in the “closed beta phase,” with 100 teams given the opportunity to use REDkit. A video of the REDkit in action is below:

Oh right, Cyberpunk 2077’s official site has the announcement video from a month ago and wallpapers up. It has a bloody, half-naked cyber lady in it, if that’s your thing.
