DrinkBox Studios recently announced that a new version of their 2013 hit Guacamelee! would be coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Wii U. The developer has even more up their sleeves, revealing to Destructoid their new project, Severed.
Severed will use touch-screen controls, therefore, players will use the typical motions of the genre; in the case of Severed, swiping to attack. The game centers on a warrior who wakes up confused. Missing a part of her arm, she attempts to unravel the mystery behind her nonexistent limb by removing enemy body parts, attaching them to her being and gaining powers.
Exploring an open world, players will not only be able to physically attack enemies, but also unleash magical spells in an offensive manner and to use as a guide for exploration.
The high-level structure is kind of like a Mega Man structure I would say. You can go down one path, or you can try going down one path and if it's not really working you can go down a different path and try that path, get the new piece of armor or whatever it is from that path, and then try that first path again [as] you'll be more upgraded, lead designer Greg Lesky told Destructoid.
With an emphasis on exploration, players can freely move around the environment as they see fit, but gaining new abilities may have you going back to unlock a door to explore a previously inaccessible area.
DrinkBox Studios plans to release Severed sometime in 2015 for mobile devices, with the developers receptive to the idea of releasing the game on the PlayStation Vita, 3DS, Wii U, and possibly the PlayStation Move, Kinect and Sony's Project Morpheus.
Take a look at Severed's concept video above, and as usual, we'll keep you posted on further details regarding DrinkBox Studios' current project.
