GTA 6 Release Date Could Be Delayed

Despite all the excitement and buzz around GTA 6, the second trailer has yet to be released.

No, I'm going here to give you a quick rundown of the highlights and lowlights of Take-Two's Q2 2025 earnings call that just ended. Just in case you're curious about what really happened, there wasn't much, which is both good and, yes, terrible news for some, especially for those who were waiting for an update on GTA 6's second trailer with a possible release date. Could Grand Theft Auto 6's release date be pushed further? Sorry to say this, but don't scrap that idea yet.

As far as we can tell, GTA 6 is still scheduled to release in its entirety in Fall 2025. The game may still have delays, though. Typically, six to nine months before the game's scheduled release, Rockstar Games has announced a delay with each of their previous releases. They typically have to disclose a delay before next year's Earnings Call in May, when they provide their fiscal year estimates, although it could be a little longer than that.

Yesterday's earnings call dove headfirst into an extensive discussion around Zynga and its several games. Now, many may wonder why Zynga is getting so much attention from Take-Two Interactive and the investor who rang in at the end of the show. That's because, as revealed in their earnings call, Rockstar Games only accounts for 17% of Take-Two Interactive's business.

Until the release of GTA 6, I'm sure that will grow, but right now, Rockstar Games is just a small part of what Take 2 Interactive is. Because of their current importance to Take-Two Interactive, Zynga's mobile games, NBA 2K, and a number of other titles within the cloak receive a great deal of attention.

The second important piece of information they shared was that they do not anticipate any notable increase in revenue from Rockstar Games in the upcoming quarter, which means the three months. So, given there aren't any new releases or pre-orders, they don't anticipate Rockstar Games will generate much money from now until January ends.

This may indicate two things at once. In other words, we do receive trailers—like a second trailer in December—but no pre-orders. Presumably, this means that the GTA 6 release or the end of the fiscal year will be the dates at which they tally the money from pre-orders and trailer 2.

You can't really draw any conclusions from this statement without heading for a debate. Rockstar has consistently claimed that GTA Online is experiencing a decline in revenue on a monthly and quarterly basis, meaning they do not have a dependence on the online aspect of GTA. And Rockstar has pretty much confirmed that there is likely nothing in the works to entice players to return to the GT Online.

Because there were no such discussions at any of their previous investor conference, however, as much as we know Rockstar, they are very good at keeping this covered. And if they had previously stated for a second trailer for GTA 6, they definitely have it ready. One thing for certain, though, is that the second GTA 6 trailer or pre-order details would likely have reached Take-Two by now. But why hasn't it been released to the public?

A comment made by Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, six years ago might be the reason why Rockstar isn't announcing any major announcements. Houser spoke in public in 2018 about his relief that Grand Theft Auto 6 wouldn't be released when Donald Trump was in office. He said that the politically divided atmosphere would have made sarcasm difficult, if not impossible, to implement.

We are now in the midst of Trump's second term as president. Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a ways off, and fans are already speculating about what Rockstar could delay GTA 6 much further. If you take into account that Rockstar's fictitious version of Florida takes place in Leonida, then Hauser's worries become much more reasonable.

Rockstar surprised us on November 8th at Take-Two Interactive's Q2 2024 Earnings Call by revealing that the GTA 6's second trailer would debut in December 2024. And now, about a year later, we find ourselves in the same place.

After Take-Two's Q2 2025 earnings call, Rockstar published an update to Red Dead Online yesterday that was strikingly identical to last year's. But after the initial excitement died down, Rockstar surprised us again by not delivering on their promise to provide a release date, any major details regarding GTA 6's second trailer, or any pre-order details.

At first, I thought we would most likely get a trailer around December—at least, it felt certain since Rockstar made the announcement. However, considering Dan Houser's quote and how GTA 6 wasn't discussed during the Q2 2025 earnings call, the likelihood of seeing a trailer in December is very uncertain.

But nothing about GTA 6, including hints about a second trailer, was revealed—not even a word. After being teased for so long, the prolonged silence made fans wonder if Rockstar was just trying to ramp up the anticipation or if we'll see something entirely shocking. I guess December will reveal that. As of now, among all the video games coming out in 2025, Grand Theft Auto 6 remains one of the most anticipated games of 2025.
