Here’s a detailed guide on how to beat Gnoster, Wisdom of Night in Sentient Pest Expedition

This guide shows you how to defeat Gnoster, Wisdom of Night, also known as the Sentient Pest boss, in Elden Ring Nightreign.

You will face two distinct enemies simultaneously: a larger Lobster with slow, telegraphed attacks and a nimble Moth that flies around, casting ranged spells. Proper coordination, positioning, and role assignment are crucial to managing both threats effectively.

Understanding the Boss Composition

You encounter two creatures when engaging Gnoster, Wisdom of Night. The first is the bulky Lobster, whose attacks are slow but hit hard and are well-telegraphed. The second is the swift Moth, which hovers and fires ranged spells that can quickly chip away at your health if left unchecked.

Both enemies possess area-of-effect abilities, so separating them as much as possible reduces the risk of overlapping damage zones.

Initial Phase: Assigning Roles

At the start of the fight, it is best to assign two players to focus on the Lobster while one player chases the Moth. By dedicating one teammate to the Moth, you prevent its ranged spells from disrupting your team’s melee damage on the Lobster.

Keep the Moth at bay with quick-casting spells or long-range attacks—its constant movement makes slow projectiles ineffective. Meanwhile, the two players tackling the Lobster should be prepared for its occasional roar that deals massive damage.

Handling the Lobster

The Lobster periodically hardens itself. Although it remains vulnerable, striking its hardened shell is deceptively tempting. Instead, when it hardens, shift your attention to the Moth or reposition defensively. The Lobster will revive and perform a devastating area-of-effect roar that can deplete roughly half of your health bar.

To avoid this, keep your distance when you see its shell glow, and be ready to dodge its slam attacks—watch its legs for telegraphed cues. During aggressive moments, jump attacks work exceptionally well to stagger the Lobster, creating openings for heavy, two-handed strikes.

Handling the Moth

You need a quick-casting spell to track and damage the Moth, as it constantly moves in a wide area. Spells that fire rapidly—such as fast sorceries—work best. Avoid any spells with a long casting time or slow projectiles because the Moth dodges them easily.

Chase it down relentlessly; as soon as it appears overhead, unleash your quick-firing magic. Be mindful of its dive attacks paired with beam strikes from above—always stay mobile to dodge these combined moves.

Transition and Phase Two

Once the Moth is defeated or significantly weakened, the Lobster will reawaken and enter a second phase with even more aggressive patterns. During this phase, it performs a beam attack: a glowing area on the ground indicates where beams will fall, inflicting large damage over time.

You must avoid stepping into these glowing zones, especially when reviving teammates. When the Lobster hardens again, disengage and play defensively. It tends to stay in one spot during its fused form, allowing you to reposition freely and attack its legs, which remain its primary weak points.

Positioning and Avoiding Attacks

Positioning is your greatest asset throughout this battle. If one player taunts the Lobster, the boss attacks slowly and telegraphs every move. Watch its legs—when they rear up, prepare to dodge the rush attack.

Use Ironeye’s dodge skills to avoid its forward rush easily; timing is critical, as pulling the dodge too early can lead to being caught by the tail end of the attack. Always stay on the move, as poison clouds from warming stones and environmental hazards can catch you off guard during prolonged engagements.

Recommended Weapons and Damage Types

Use whatever weapons you have available, but prioritize elements that exploit boss vulnerabilities. For example, equipping a Dagger with fire damage can burn through its health pool quickly if you are the only one with a fire-enchanted weapon.

If you can combine fire, bleed, or similar status effects, you will reduce the boss’s large health pool more efficiently.

Dealing with Area-of-Effect Attacks

The Lobster’s roar and beam attacks create wide zones of devastation when you see the ground glow white or purple. Back off immediately to avoid lingering damage. The roar alone can remove nearly half of your health, so always keep an eye on your stamina and health bars.

If you need to heal or revive a teammate, ensure you are outside the impending beam’s landing zone; otherwise, you risk being snared by the area-of-effect just as you stand up your ally.

Ultimate Usage and Aggro Management

Save your ultimate abilities—those that take two or three bars—for moments when you must revive a downed teammate under pressure. One effective strategy is to bait the Lobster’s aggro onto your character, then trigger an ultimate to perform a safe resurrection.

This not only revives your ally but also shifts the boss’s attention away from them. During fused form, it is easier to maintain aggro on one teammate, allowing the others to focus on landing critical strikes or healing as needed.
