H1Z1 Loses A Lot of its Player Base
Right before eSports launch
News by Grayshadow on Feb 27, 2018
Daybreak Game Company's zombie battle royale game H1Z1 is about to make its eSports debut but the game's current player base has dropped, a lot.
H1Z1 has seen a dramatic fall in its player count, most likely due to PUBG leaving early access. The player count has been steadily dropping but the average player count remained steady, until now. From January 2018 to February 2018 the player count dropped from 12K to 7K, with a peak of 16K. In comparison, July 2017 had a peak count of 150K and has been dropping since.
H1Z1 launched on Steam Early Access back in 2015 by Daybreak Games. The game was plagued with server issues and bugs but CEO of Daybreak John Smedley stated the game sold over 2 million copies in the first 2 months.
H1Z1 would eventually become the third most played game on Steam in 2017, with PUBG and Dota 2 maintaining the top spots. In October aanH1Z1 Pro League was announced, promising a minimum of $50,000 salaries for the top players.
With the significant drop in player count, it's likely this may have some effect in the future launch of the pro league.
H1Z1 is available now on PC in early access.
