Insomniac's New Single-Player Game After Marvel's Spider-Man 3

Insomniac's new IP might eventually lead to the development of a standalone game featuring Cindy Moon.

Sony has quite a lot to prioritize in terms of Insomniac's upcoming single-player narrative games. While fans would love to get their hands on Marvel's Spider-Man 3, Insomniac's current focus lies on Marvel's Wolverine and Spider-Man Vemon games since Marvel's Blade is being developed by Bethesda. Both of these games are expected to be released in 2025, while Wolverine might get pushed to 2026. We'll know about this during the PlayStation February 2025 State of Play in just a few weeks.

According to Insomniac Games' Senior Creative Director Brian Interha, the third installment of Marvel's Spider-Man series is supposedly the series finale. Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will feature Doc Ock and Green Goblin, who will play as the main antagonists in this game, and Chameleon and Carnage will also be part of that crew.

There was talk of the Spider-Verse, and we also know that they will have to tell the story of Peter Parker, who will most likely be returning from a cameo appearance, as well as the story of Carnage. In addition to Miles Morales, who is the primary Spider-Man in New York City, there is now Cindy Moon, whose character will need extensive development in Spider-Man 3 if she is not fully explored in the Spider-Man Venom game.

Insomniac developed a standalone game for Miles to flesh out his character further. After Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Insomniac wanted to release a game starring Venom to set the stage for the symbiote's future appearances in Insomniac Spider-Man games. They even laid the groundwork for Knurl in Spider-Man 2, but whether that gets used in Spider-Man Venom or Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is anyone's guess.

In the Spider-Man 2 post-credits sequence from Marvel, Cindy Moon makes a brief cameo appearance without speaking. So fans were hoping that there would be a Spider-Man 2 DLC where Silk's story would be further stretched. But that didn't happen since the DLC never happened. Regardless, it indicates well for the story of the upcoming game and suggests that Cindy Moon, who will be playable as a character in Marvel's Spider-Man 3, will have a significant character arc that delves even further into her backstory.

Inevitably, Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will feature Silk as a playable character. We have seen Silk in her early stages from previously leaked gameplay footage. Even though the leaked gameplay was from Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the only difference was that Silk had unique animated patterns for web-swinging, which is akin to Miles' character fluidity. We also get a glimpse of one of the outfits that might be featured for her.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will probably be released in 2028 since 2027 doesn't seem viable, given Insomniac's involvement with other ongoing projects. Rumors suggest that in 2030, there will be a new IP, and this may be anything from a completely original concept to a standalone Silk game, similar to Marvel's Spider-Man 1.

Since Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will be a massively packed game with the cancellation of the Great Web, it's conceivable that this new IP could eventually plan for a solo game starring Silk, delving deeper into her character and setting the stage for future Marvel Spider-Man games like Marvel's Spider-Man 4 or, ideally, bringing the Great Web back to life.

Given Insomniac's past work, it's obvious to expect a standalone Silk game after Marvel's Spider-Man 3 release to advance her narrative even further. It seems like a perfect opportunity to introduce her to a new city where Silk could be the main spider.

Alternatively, Insomniac might embark on a different narrative, like a multiverse story, where characters from the Great Web, such as Gwen Stacy, Anna-May Parker, and the Mayday Parker, all make an appearance in separate DLCs and play a game similar to a spider girl's squad, each with their own distinctive abilities.

Given that Peter will most likely depart at the finale of Marvel's Spider-Man 3, Cindy Moon, aka Silk, will most certainly continue to play a significant part as one of the primary spider heroes of New York City. We now have Miles and Cindy, the two new Spider-heroes, taking up the mantle of Spider-Man full-time.

Even though we don't expect Insomanic to reveal official details on these anytime soon, we can expect to get a solid idea about what's going to happen with the Spider-Man universe throughout 2025, or at least a glimpse at Sony's PlayStation May 2025 State of Play as it's unlikely to see such reveal at the February 2025 State of Play.
