If anyone is still looking for fun, random games to play, Steam is still a good place to start that search. From now until June 14, Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 is free to download on the online store. Users who add the game to their library will be able to keep it indefinitely.
Kao is one of the dozens of mascots who tried to capture the 3D platformer phase, back around the PlayStation 2 era. The first in the series was originally a Sega Dreamcast game. Players operate a kangaroo, as the title states, running around verdant expanses. There are coins to collect, light combat to perform with the protagonist's boxing gloves and several boss fights to complete. Essentially, the game from developer Tate Multimedia is anything a standard game of its genre stands for. There are similarities to franchises like Legend of Kay, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger or the Croc games; titles who existed just under the radar.
Originally, Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 was published by Atari, as well as JoWood Productions, with the latter having since dissolved and been absorbed by THQ Nordic. Currently, Tate Multimedia is overseeing the distribution of their game independently. Moreover, the developer has announced to be working on a new Kao the Kangaroo game.
There should be no issues for people who want to download the free Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2, as the requirements show a 600Mhz processor and a 32Mb graphics card. Basically any old laptop should be able to run the game. This is perfect for everyone who wants to take a bite into some nostalgia, back to the time when things were not so bad. Not that there's a specific reason for that or anything. Let us know in the comments if you've enjoyed Kao the Kangaroo in the past or present.
