Lollipop Chainsaw Remake Announced With 2023 Release Date

Dragami Games remaking zombie hack-and-slash game Lollipop Chainsaw with 2023 release date

Dragami Games founder Yoshimi Yasuda has announced that Lollipop Chainsaw will be getting a remake and that it will be released in 2023. In June, Yasuda teased that an announcement regarding the cult favorite hack-and-slash title would be coming, and fans were left to excitingly speculate what form zombie-slaying cheerleader Juliet Starling (Tara Strong) would return in.

In a July 5th tweet, Yasuda announced that Dragami Games "have decided to develop a remake". However, it will not be a 1-to-1 recreation of the original game as "even though the original staff are working on the remake, there will be elements that are different from the original." These elements include Lollipop Chainsaw's soundtrack, which originally included a number of licensed tracks including songs by Skrillex, Five Finger Death Punch and The Human League. "Aside from a few licensed tracks" Dragami Games will be developing a new soundtrack for the Lollipop Chainsaw remake.

Another element of Lollipop Chainsaw that will be changed in the remake is its appearance. Two console generations have passed since Lollipop Chainsaw was first released and since 2012 video game graphics have become much more detailed and life-like. With games like The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and Red Dead Redemption 2 pushing graphical fidelity to the limits, Yasuda has announced that Dragami Games "will be taking a more realistic approach to graphics this time." This may prove divisive however as Lollipop Chainsaw's comic-book aesthetic is among its most praised aspects. Fans will just have to hope that Lollipop Chainsaw's offbeat tone is kept alive amidst the remake's more realistic graphics.

The message today is a positive one, with Yasuda acknowledging that players have had a hard time getting their hands on Lollipop Chainsaw since its release. This is mainly because it has never been re-released on newer platforms and Yasuda concluded the announcement with an optimistic mission statement, declaring that Dragami Games' goal is "in any case... to make it easier for gamers who want to play Lollipop Chainsaw to do so."

Lollipop Chainsaw Remake is set to be released in 2023.
