Nintendo Switch Passes 25 Million Sales In Japan

Famitsu has reported that the Nintendo Switch has hit 25 million sales in Japan, surpassing the Nintendo 3DS which sold approximately 24.595 million units. The site splits the 25,010,404 total between the three Nintendo Switch models on the market and has calculated the following sales:

- Nintendo Switch: 18,379,851 units
- Nintendo Switch Lite: 4,754,257 units
- Nintendo Switch (organic EL model): 1,876,296

 

As for games, Animal Crossing: New Year’s Forest (known as Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the West) is the highest-selling Nintendo Switch game in Japan with an estimated 7,261,929 units sold. It is followed by Super Smash Bros. SPECIAL (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) in second with an estimated 4,895,873 units sold, and Mario Kart 8 DELUXE in third with an estimated 4,664,614 units sold.

By Famitsu’s estimates, the Nintendo Switch is now the third highest-selling games console in Japan behind only the Game Boy/Game Boy Color (approx. 32,470,000 units) and DS (approx. 32,990,000), both of which were also made by Nintendo.
