The gaming world certainly changed when it was revealed that the Bloober Team would be working on remaking the iconic survival horror game Silent Hill 2. As exciting as the remake is, it isn't the only thing the Polish developer is working on, as the studio has recently announced that they have started a collaboration with Skybound Entertainment.
For those unfamiliar with Skybound Entertainment, you may know them as the publishers of the comic series Birthright and Invincible. Still, most likely, you'll know them as the production company behind The Walking Dead TV series. To make matters even more exciting, the creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, co-founded the collaboration project with Bloober Team. The collaboration is a part of Skybound Entertainment's attempt at branching into a broader range of media, such as video games, which we have seen in the past, namely Telltale's The Walking Dead game series.
Currently, what we know about this upcoming project is exceptionally scarce. The project, codenamed 'R', was first announced on Bloober Team's official website, where the developer revealed that they had signed the licensing and publishing agreement. Based on what was shared, this project will not be an upcoming original IP and is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. Bloober Team's president, Piotr Babieno, seems to have quite a bit of confidence in the project as he states, "I am sure that it will be a successful cooperation."
While this may be Skybound Entertainment's newest attempt to branch out to video games, it also shows a shift for Bloober Team because, as mentioned in June of this year, the developer would no longer be creating psychological horror games after Silent Hill 2 Remake. Despite the studio making a name for itself through titles such as The Medium, Layers of Fear, its sequel, and Blair Witch, the studio is transforming into a new version that focuses more on "mass-market horror". This newly announced collaboration clearly reflects this new direction, as it will most likely have something to do with The Walking Dead franchise.
Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead is a top-rated horror franchise, not just in terms of television but also in terms of both comics and television, thanks to Telltale's phenomenal narrative The Walking Dead video game series, which is still considered to be one of the best video game narratives to this day. Hopefully, this collaboration will work out better than Skybound Entertainment's other video game collaboration, Walking Dead: Destinies, which became the laughing stock of the internet throughout November and was lauded as being one of the worst video games of 2023, even being compared to The Lord of The Rings: Gollum.
